Company Advertised MONTH-to-MONTH SERVICES but upon cancellation request, TRY to enforce that you are locked into a 5 YEAR CONTRACT and refuse to cancel unless you pay for the remaining TERM!!  

The mortgage company I worked and I used Shred-It close to 2 years.  I switched mortgage companies and was forced to switch to a different document shredding service. 

The service plan I was on was month-to-month servicing and when I signed up for it, the sales person promised this was the case.  I was told that if I no longer needed service, I could cancel anytime.  Later, when I tried to cancel my service, I was told that I was only 2 years in to a 60 MONTH CONTRACT and that I would have to pay costs and fees for all of the remaining term EVEN THOUGH I was cancelling with cause!!!

I officially requested for my account to be cancelled in June of 2019 with the companys' "Retention Specialist".  Then a few months later, I get a collection notice asking me to pay close to $630 in fees that had accumulated since my cancellation request.  Today, I called to get to the bottom of the situation and was told that I would have to pay the amount due AND THEN, they could REINSTATE the account and be sent back to their RETENTION specialist to attempt to cancel the service again.  I will post an update to this review once I am done dealing with this nightmare of a company and situation.

After working with Shred-it customer service and paying a portion of the owed amount, Shred-It reached out to me today and agreed to clear out the remaining balance on my account AND also agreed to cancel my account fully.  I am glad that they did the right thing on this and based on this, I am now satisfied with the final result.  All companies make mistakes as do their employees, when they step up and fix them to make sure the customer is satisfied with the end result, that is commendable.

I'm going to ignore the rebuttal to my original comment that was clearly posted by the guy in the "retention department" who Shred-It will hopefully fire as he is unprofessional and incredibly rude.

 As per you, they claim you are in a five year contract. Did you read the contract BEFORE you signed it? Forget about what some salesperson told you, WHAT DOES THE CONTRACT SAY???
