I contracted with American Van Lines to pick up my sister's belongings in Kentucky on May 15, 2009. she had a flight to catch May 18, 2009 bringing her to California.

On the day on May 13, 2009, the Quality Assurance individuals from American called to insure that everything was in fact ready for pick-up. My sister assured them that it was. On the morning of May 15th my sister got up early to await the arrival of the movers. After I finished teaching school, I called to ask my sister how the moving went and was told they had not shown up to pick up the boxes to be moved nor was anyone answering the phones.

When my sister went to bed that night, the boxes remained in the house. The next morning she called and finally got soemone to answer the phone. She was told that the movers would be there some time that day and that the contract gave them a 2 day window. Again, she sat waiting another entire day and at 11 PM. the driver called and stated that he would be there at 6 AM the next morning, the same date as her flight.

She was up at 5:30 waiting for them. They were not there at 6 AM. She called them and they did not answer. They were not there at 6:30 AM. She called them and they did not answer. They were not there at 7 AM. She called them and they did not answer. You do see a patter here right? They finally showed up after 9. My sister only had 78 boxes but that was not the point.

It did not get any better when they got to California. The driver called my call phine eight times when I was teaching class. My phone is off while I am teaching. After school I turn my phone back on, the driver calls again. He starts the conversation by yelling at me. I explained to him I don't know who he is yelling at but he needs to stop yelling, because I will not be yelled at like a child. He continued to yell and he said something about contacting his boss and I hung up.

Some woman from the main office called me and stated that I needed to have $1,449.00 tomorrow either in cash or cashier check so they can drop off my sisters stuff by 9AM. This was now 8PM, I told her there was no way I could get a cashiers check this late at night. She stated that how was she to know that she could not get hold of me until this late. She told me that my bank opens at 9 and I can get it before I get there for them to unload. I told her "really" and just how do you know all this? My bank does not until 10. I have to be at school at 7:30, and I won't be there to unload at 9.

She tells me you can go to the ATM and get 700 out tonight and 700 tomorrow. I informed her that I could not. My bank you can only get 500, so actually you don't know all that you think you do. I had to go to Walmart and get 2 money orders for these people. I filled these money orders out for American Van Lines. I did not know that they were NOT a part of American Van lines. So needless to say they couldnot take them, so my sister had to go and cash them in and get them reissued.

She was told that they would not take the boxes off the truck until they had their money. Guess what! When she returned with the money orders, all of the boxes were off the truck and placed into the storage unit.

These people are terrible. They do not know how to deal with people. They are very rude. They are not on time and they do not take care of your things.
