RUN AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!! I paid $9,300 for an illegal atrocity. Smart 72 asks for a huge downpayment which is against the law, anything over 10% is illegal. The installation was illegal and there are several code violations. I paid for a permit, but they never got one, also very illegal!! I had a 2 ton unit replaced with a 3 ton unit after a large addition and they performed no load calculations and no duct calculations either. They just took one unit out, put a much larger unit in very poorly and left thinking I wouldn't question it. The thermostat is falling off the wall, there are holes in the wall never patched from the old one. They left no paperwork for me on the unit or plans (they had none) all illegal. The airflow is 858 cfm according to them (they won't give me the flow test results it's probably even less based on the house conditions with it running) and that's well short of the 1050 cfm LEGAL requirement! The unit has a sticker on it saying the maximum static pressure it can handle is 0.5". I had an independent tester look into it and it's operating at 1.28", 2.5X the legal requirement!! When brought to their attention they are trying to backpedal and cover their behinds.
Their go-to strategy is deception. I have endlessly read HVAC code and business law and they are inept at both. I had a contractor come out and look at what was done, both him and the tester were mortified at the atrocity that was "installed" and agreed it needs a full overhaul. Smart 72 has refused responsibility and will not refund my money. I am forced to pursue this through litigation. I have now heard multiple reports of them preying on old ladies and overcharging for services never rendered. Not completing the permitting process and multiple fraudulent activity! THEY ARE SCAM ARTISTS!! Please run away. My family including children ages 7, 4, & 2 will have to endure the Atascadero heat without a functional HVAC system. I need my money refunded to pay to have a proper and LEGAL system that they are incapable of providing. We look forward to it being in the 90's inside this summer. I guess I can just take the kids outside and hose them down to keep them cool. Thanks Smart 72 and David Cornejo, Operations Manager. Don't reply with a bogus attempt at saving face, people will begin to start seeing through your deception and go elsewhere.

Update: After having to go through the painful process of small claims court and the associated actions I had to take, it was an easy decision in my favor and a full refund was received. I will now look forward to getting a fully functional HVAC system installed by a different contractor.
