I opened my online banking account to find that I had been charged $14.95 from a company called smartsavingscenter.com. I make a lot of online purchases through amazon.com and alibris.com, but have made none in the past few months. These are the only two things I can think of that would have triggered a charge on my account.

I immediately called my bank and filed a dispute before the item posted and they have begun an investigation.

I have never heard of this company and can't imagine such a charge. The website reveals very little--it looks like a cupon/giftcard company? I'm not sure.

I'll update.

I recently purchased books from hotbooksale.com and when I checked my credit card statement, showed two charges from smartsavingscenter.com -- one for $11.46 and the other for $19.95 -- a company that I had never even heard of. Be aware of sites that have "powered by smartsavingscenter.com" - this is a phishing scam! These people need to be stopped!!!

My bank notified me that I've been charged since March of this year ranging from $9.99 to $14.99. I have filed a claim and they will reimburse me for the last 60 days. After much sifting in my email, I found that the charges are linked to one hotbooksale.com where I purchased a book February 11, 2008. I found the link through google shopping. After the purchase, I received an email stating that smartsavingscenter.com would be sending my order. Immediately after that, I received another email thanking me for signing up for the 7-day trial period for vaguely described savings. I never signed up for any of this, nor did I authorize any charges on my account. I called the toll free number for hotbooksale.com as well as the number for smartsavingscenter.com. Both are the same format. I called and I was the second caller in line for customer service. After 4 minutes of waiting, a recording comes on telling me there is a high volume of calls and I can either leave a message on voicemail or continue waiting. I continue waiting, but now I'm the fifth caller in line. The same message comes on again. Do you see a pattern? I left a message instructing them to call me back, but I won't hold my breath. Here are the numbers I called: Hotbooksale.com = 1-866-566-8437 Smartsavingscenter.com = 1-800-511-6538 Also, here is an address: HotBookSale.com PO Box 810365 Boca Raton, FL, 33481 - 0365
