I have been a manager for 2 years with this company. During this time period I have had 3 District Area Supervisors. The first lie told to me was that I would be saving my time spent with another division of the Regis corporation from which SmartStyle asked me to leave to come and manage the Kimball, TN salon for them. Boy was that one wrong. I lost the 11 months I acrrued there in vacation time. Then I was shuttled in and out of salons like crazy!

I managed Kimball, Brainerd, Soddy Daisy (for which I never did recieve the Manager pay-only stylist), Tiftonia and Back to Kimball (where I have been for a whole year! With no bonus on the sales as promised. Now during this time of 2 years I have acted a supervisor when ours was not available. Salons were calling me at home late at night. I was not paid for the extra service. If salons were short handed the supervisor, Dan left it up to me to get help out there.

They changed the insurance. My area Dr. is not a participant of their company. When I broke my foot-the insurance saved me about $100 the other $600 came from my pocket. Take home pay was a joke- many times less than $300 for over 80 hours in 2 weeks. I worked holidays, weekends, 3 and 4 weeks straight thru with no break for a day off. Where were the supervisors? The corporate offices do not return phone calls, they do their 40 and go. They do not care about the dime a dozen stylists that are hired. Yes, we are susposed to be a dime a dozen, so why are the salons always short handed. With what they owe me-Chattanooga should be in great shape for help.

I JUST LEFT THE COMPANY ON THIS MONDAY. AND I FEEL YOUR PAIN!!!!!! EVERY LOCATION IS NOT FOR EVERYONE.  SOME AREAS ARE BETTER THAN OTHERS. AND THATS THE TRUTH WHETHER THE OTHER COMMENTOR BELIEVES IT OR NOT.  FIRST OF ALL THE MANAGEMENT AND CORPORATE SUCKS.... POINT BLANK PERIOD!  THERE IS NO COMMUNICATION OR ROOM FOR COMPROMISE! PERIOD! I HAD BEEN WITH THE COMPANY FOR A LITTLE OVER A YEAR, AND IT WAS RIDICULOUS.  I NEVER HAD A CHECK OVER 400$.  IT WAS SLOW AS HELL.  I WENT OUT PASSED OUT CARDS, HAD ADVERTISEMENT ON MY CAR, INTERNET....WHATEVER POSSIBLE.  BUT THE ULTIMATE THING PEOPLE IN MY AREA WANTED THAT WE COULD NOT DO WAS EXTENTIONS.........THERE ARE SALONS ON EVERY CORNER IN GEORGIA (SO MUCH COMPETITION) AND SMARTSTYLE PUT LIMITS ON SERVICES OFFERED.  EXTENTIONS ARE ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR.  THE OTHER THING IS PAYING!  THESE CLIENTS DO NOT WANNA PAY, WHEN THEY SEE HOW THE PRICES ARE BROKEN DOWN THEY LEAVE!!!!!!!  I HAVE HAD SO MANY PEOPLE TURN AWAY ITS RIDICULOUS.  BUT WE CANT COMPROMISE PERIOD! WHICH I THINK IS NOT COOL.  I FEEL IF SOMEONE IS ABOUT TO TURN AWAY WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO SOMETHING TO KEEP THEM.  RIGHT NOW PEOPLE ARE LOOKING FOR INCENITIVES.  AND I MEAN I UNDERSTAND ITS A BUSINESS, BUT EVEN IN RETAIL (I WORK IN THAT FIELD TOO) IF A COMPANY VALUES THEIR CUSTOMER AND WANTS THEM TO COME BACK PLUS RECOMMEND YOU, YOU HAVE TO GIVE A LIL TO GET A LIL.  THATS JUST HOW I SEE IT.

AND LASTLY,  CORPORATE DOES SUCK, THE MANAGEMENT SUCKS TOO.  TO RUN A BUSINESS AND PEOPLE YOU HAVE TO BE A PEOPLE PERSON AND TAKE OUT SELF.  ESPECIALLY TO THE ONES THAT WANT TO BE THERE AND LEARN.  I DIDNT WANT TO QUIT BECAUSE MY CLIENTELE WAS STARTING TO PICK UP REALLY WELL BUT I HAD AND STILL HAVE ANOTHER JOB AND THIS WAS UNDERSTOOD AT THE TIME OF HIRING......THINK THEY CARED?  NO! THINK THEY TRIED TO COMPROMISE? NO!  I WANT EMPLOYERS THAT CARE.

i understand your frustration over working by yourself and what not but it is not hard to be a manager. and also if you were sometimes getting paid less than $300 than theres something wrong with you. our newest stylists working 25hrs/wk make twice that. maybe you just werent cut out for the company. i love this company havebeen with them 5 yrs and have had not ONE problem. and if you were working for them for 2 years i shouldnt have mattered if you were being paid manager or stylists pay. by two years u should have had enough clients, even with moving around, to make 50% all the time.
