Well, kids -- if the offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is . . .

NewEgg.com offered a $75 manufacturer's rebate from Soyo for the SY-P4I865PE Plus DRAGON 2 v1.0 motherboard. Great!

Well, that was on September 2, 2004. I not only had to register my rebate on-line with Soyo, but I had to mail in the same info (plus a copy of the proof of purchase. OK. No problem. I fill out everything on-line, I fill out the 2 rebate forms, the PoP, a copy of the invoice and send it in.

After a few weeks, I check the verifyrebate.com website -- they have no record of me. OK. I check in every few days or so. No dice. I contact Soyo customer 'service'. No response.

Finally - about 2 weeks ago, I lambaste Soyo and NewEgg for the bogus offer. To NewEggs' credit, they contact me by phone and e-mail. According to them, I am not the only poor slob this has happened to. NewEgg contacts Soyo and arrange for me to submit a post-dated rebate. According to Soyo's verify.com website, they are sending me a check ("approved 1/13/05").

Whether I get it or not remains to be seen -- I just wonder if I, too, will "disappear" from their records (along with my rebate checks).

NewEgg CS seemed quite miffed at Soyo for sullying their good name.

Are you listening, Soyo?? NewEgg knows how to keep customers -- something YOU have not picked up on yet . . .
