Spirit Airlines is a "no frills" cheap ride, but never... ever...... get into a situation where they cancel a flight. Spirit will leave you high and dry and stranded without batting an eye. They simply don't care. They're motto seems to be, offer a cheap ride and they will come. Recently, scheduled out of Philadelphia, my wife and I were book on Spirit. I'd flown the airlines twice in the past without incident. This  flight was canceled "due to weather" according to Spirit. But, that's just a lie they used to avoid any passenger obligation. The reality is they have one flight a day to DFW from Philadelphia. Since my Sunday flight was canceled and their Monday flight was booked solid, they gave us the option of waiting until Tuesday or getting a refund.

Any other airline would have re-routed us on another airline.... but Spirit won't. They don't work with other airlines. If you need to fly them, buy travel insurance. A refund was almost useless to us as last minute bookings on every other airline were premium priced. Obviously, I spent over $500 more than my refund to get home. Not everyone could afford it. Some people simply had nowhere to go and no other choice but to wait 48 hours. Airport living at it's finest, but do not expect this airline to care.  They don't care. Not one little bit.

I followed the plane on the Internet from Philadelphia where it was when I arrived at the airport. The plane was already very late. After leaving Philadelphia, the flight went to Myrtle Beach, South Caroline where it was scheduled to turn around and come back to PA and pick up a full passenger group, including me delayed from 12:15 to 5:30. There were thunder storms in Philadelphia and the airport closed for 30 minutes at 3 PM. This plane did not have the crew hours available to come back at 5:30 as re-scheduled  and then travel to DFW. The crew would have exceeded flight time FAA allowed hours and that is why this flight was canceled. That flight was clear into Philadelphia at 5:00 PM but instead that same plane flew empty from South Carolina to DFW because of crew availability. That is not a REAL weather  cancellation, but a function of the airline not having alternative crew plans. In the past, airlines work together to accommodate passenger with the least inconvenience. That was not what Spirit Airlines did for us or anyone unlucky enough to have booked that flight.

Spirit gave us the choice of leaving in 2 days or getting a refund, basically stranding some people. There was no attempt to accommodate anyone and the local Philly manager was rude in some cases. Not that he wasn't in a bad situation. I waited in line over 3 hours for a refund ......(are you kidding me) 3 hours for a refund to tell me that it was a weather cancellation and therefore, they had no obligation to any passenger. This, after waiting five hours for them to cancel the flight. We were at the airport for 12 hours and in that time, planes were coming and going. Others travelers on American Airlines into DFW who had canceled flights were rerouted on other airlines..... just good customer service. Not us and not Spirit. Those of us on Spirit were left very high and very dry that day.

No food, no hotels, no re-routing option. No nothing. Obviously, service like that is not worth the 25% you might save. Don't fly spirit unless you buy travel insurance and have lots of time and are willing to take it in the back if anything goes wrong. This is an airline who thinks the masses will come of they hide all their fees and offer just a cheap fare. They think the casual traveler is a stupid group I guess.

Looking for people ripped off by the $9.00 Club

I think that an attorney should file a class action suit for those of us ripped off by Spirit Airlines $9.00 club. I quit automatic renewal and therefore, am no longer a member. It does not matter to them that I already paid for a year. Wonder if this practice is legal
