Was approached over a year ago to join the Spirit frequent flyer program along w. my husband...got the word that miles never expire...we were immediately guaranteed a free flight by signing up for the credit card.

Spirit failed to notify me that they were no longer partnering with Barclay Bank for the card.  When it came time to renew, the bank told me that they were not affiliated with Spirit.  I called Spirit they said I could get another card when I told them I didn't want another credit card but wanted my miles, they said that they would expire since I didn't make any purchases on the credit card.

For some reason, they said that I had miles that would expire in a few months but that my husbands miles were gone.  I asked if I could do anything to reinstate but was told no.

Recentlly I tried to use the miles I had before they too were lost but couldn't get a flight at the rate for that month (I was told that I had already earned a free round trip when I signed up??)...The customer service person said that I could wait for Sept then I would have enough miles to go from Phila to Fl.  I explained that I was a teacher and Sept wouldn't work...He basically said too bad.

I inquired if I could purchase the remaining miles needed (20%) and was told that it was not possible. The customer service agent told me that the miles would just expire.  When I asked if I could speak w. a manager , he said No.  There is nothing that can be done.

Boy I was certainly taken for a ride by Spirit...
