I flew for the first time on Spirit Airines recently. I used a new suitcase just purchased a few days before and they tore a big hole in it. A Spirit employee at my destination said all the airlines are the same and gave me a phoe number to call (not even a toll free one). Well, no matter what time you call or what day of the week; you alway get a message saying they are closed. You can leave a message, but you will never be called back.

It is unfortunate to have had such an experience. While I am not able to directly assist, I can provide you some helpful information. There is an objective means to see if what you experienced is the norm for the company and how they compare within the industry. The Department Of Transportation (DOT) and the company track these issues/complaints statistically. If there were a real issue with the company, the DOT would be an objective source to better show proof that there is a credible issue with the company as a whole and not one of the exceptions that all companies suffer in the course of doing business. Furthermore, the entire purpose of the company tracking such numbers internally is to monitor the situation because it is not good for business when problems are large and frequent. What you experienced, a damaged bag, is a norm within the industry just like cars get flat tires. Policies are written accordingly, and are fairly common/ standard within the industry. They are written to balance both sides of the equation. It would serve yourself and the public to make them aware of the official means of reporting these incidents. I urge you to contact the company headquarters and ask to speak to a senior level person (ask for the corporate office or customer service phone or address from reservations). That phone number is available at www.spiritair.com. Better fortunes in the future, and have a blessed day. jg
