You are correct, Nevada Law does allow the consumer a "5 day recession period" in which the buyer has the opportunity to CANCEL the pending sales contract when purchasing a timeshare.
However, after reading thru several "Rip-Off" complaints here. It seems that one of the common denominators here is the fact that at NO time during the sales presentation or closing process is the CONSUMER ever made aware of this right afforded him/her at all!
Is it printed in BIG RED letters on one of the hundred or so sheets of paper? yessir it is. But it sure is funny how that particular pack of information was cleverly placed into in "owners packet" without being handed to the potential buyer before BEING PUT INTO THE SALES PACKET.
Is it the responsibility of the buyer to read the materials presented? again yessir-ee! then again most of the people that attend the "mandatory" presentations are usually on VACATION and it may be several days before returning to their hometown.
In some (most) cases it may be well after the 5 day period has passed.
I too was one of these people.
Was it dishonest practice? technically no, Is this a SCAM? different people different opinions, I personally am not saying that the STARPOINT RESORT sales presentation (FREE CRUISE, FREE AIR TRAVEL?) is a total scam but then again I'm one person with one opinion, hehehe.
If, a TIMESHARE purchase is that great of a deal, it really sounded like one in the sales pitch, If, this product is really as good as it is made out to be by the sales staff then WHY? would STARPOINT RESORTS or any timeshare company, has to also offer incentives to potential buyers as a means to convince them that this is an opportunity to good to pass up?
IF THE PRODUCT IS REALLY THAT GOOD, wouldn't it be a situation where there is NO ONE asking to cancel such a purchase? It doesn't seem like that is the situation here but for those those that are trying to do just that it seems like the representatives of Starpoint Resorts must feel that they are being asked to give up their first born child or something.
In any situation you CANNOT please ALL of the people ALL of the time thats just not going to happen its a fact of life. But boy it sure seems like Starpoint Resort Group and all of its affiliates truly believe that they are the exception to the rule.

I know its been awhile but it seems everyone has been ripped off as bad as me. I just brought this stupid time share with false info. I thought it was too good to be true. I asked the so called sales rep "Rock" in every way possible to make sure it was correct. I even had them put it in their so called tape recording of the meeting. once I got the info it wasn't anything like I was told. it is a joke and I am out of a lot of money. I called and told them and supposedly they were going to listen to the recording and get back to me. here we are months later and it hasn't been done. at this point I am going to go back down there talk to the manager and have to take them to court. if any budding else can suggestion something easier, please let me know. thanks

Hello Stephanie, I am in the process of trying to cancel a contract with these guys as well. I was trying to get a hold of Lante03 who apparently picketed and got results so I could see if he recieved a cancellation letter and who signed it. Only people ever call me are the finance folks looking for money. I live in Ottawa Canada so cannot easilly picket but would love to get involved to fight somehow. Lantes if you are reading these post please contact me at (((Redaacted)))

Stephanie,
I recently purchased a Timeshare with this company. It has been a week and after I research online I have come to believe that I was SCAMMED as well. Is there anything you can suggest that I do?

I have personally worked in the Timeshare Industry for over a decade and have had the great opportunity to gain higher education in other fields to realize that this business strategy is a wonderful concept for consumers who understand the value of the American Dollar and inflation. It can become a gateway for the 'Average Joe' to also experience the value of vacationing and how beneficial quality family experiences become in future times. Having been in the business of Timeshare I also realize that sometimes the consumers are irresponsible to their commitments and fail to take the time to educate themselves on their purchases. I'm a little bewildered of the fact that there are consumers who proudly state in their claim of being "Ripped Off' of how to take advantage of a business entity by "Picketing" or trying to hold a company hostage.
There are documents and materials given to owners that outline the programs involved. It also seems that there was great confusion to the ownership parameters. I know that RCI affilicates can be entitled to 3 RCI Bonus Weeks that can be redeemed one per annual.... Not to be confused with your actual membership. Not sure if this is the way that GEO works, but seems that this might actually be the case. By-the-way - RCI is an Exchnage Affliliate associated with the timeshare interest purchased. I wonder if there was any attempt to obtain further education in order to utilize their timeshare interest appropriately?
The State of Nevada also provides each conusmer who purchases a timeshare interest in the State of Nevada, a 5 day revocation period regardless of which timeshare company it is purchased from. This option is conveyed in every contract derived and executed by the purchaser. It is actually stated in serveral different documents. As a responsible consumer, wouldn't you go home and review your contract agreements to in fact ensure that you had not been misinformed by verbal promises? If a used car salesman told me that I was going to receive an extended warranty for a vehicle I purchased off their lot, I would certainly expect that I would receive some sort of collateral stating such...
I have a question for the member complaining of the escrow procedures... Did you ever recieve a correspondence from the escrow division for the closing of your account? Are you a mortgage holder? Seems that you are highly misinformed of escrow closing procedures. Also, to apply and be approved for an MBNA RCI credit card, you would have needed to fill out and execute an application with pertinent credit background questions and signatures. It would've been up to the consumer to either place the purchase price on a personal credit line or accept the "In House" financing terms. Seems that these specifc consumers did not like or agree to the interest rate involved with the financing.
Folks, please get your facts straight and in order. Remember that we reside in a very litigious world. Have you looked up Disney on this website? Would you still take your children to Disney for their own experience? Keep an open mind as there doesn't seem to be any vaild claims to these gripes.
For the guy who sold timeshare, complaining of commissions.. Is this your first rodeo? It's called a reserve...
Picketers beware!!! There are laws involved with picketing... Be sure not to get involved with defamation and ensure you are competely informed of public laws and not just your freedom of speech ammendments! Just to be careful. There are plenty of timeshare companies with valuable reputations. Remember that there are thousands of happy timeshare owners... Maybe take the time to educate yourselves futher...

I had an opportunity to look into these charges as I am employed with GeoHoliday. It is true that a salesperson lied to this nice couple during the sales process. The sales agent was terminated and a full refund was awarded by the developer. Each sale does go thru an escrow process,(just because you do not see the officer does not mean it does not occur) as required by the State of Nevada. I have always found that most new members are confused to a point and many get their questions answered by a great members services division. You may recall in the original letter that it was the company that told her there were mistakes in the presentation. That seems like a good company to me as most would never admit their mistakes. It takes 8 weeks to reverse escrow and refund a member that has closed escrow. Since all their money was returned they should be fair and resubmit a letter stating so. With over 52,000 members worldwide a few problems are bound to arise, I am proud to work for a company that values it's members so highly.

In response to Wyndham employee, Mikyvegas. The reason Stephanie wrote "AKA Fairfield" in the title is that at the time, GeoHolidays was a Fairfield Affiliate company. When you bought a GeoHolidays club membership, you were given a Fairshare Plus member number and account and your ownership was given in regular FairShare Plus points. I own a couple of GeoHolidays contracts and the points go straight into my FairShare plus account. Wyndham/Fairfield has an ethical responsibility to ensure their affiliates (who are selling the same points you are) are representing their product honestly. I won't even get into discussion at this point with your comment about 800,000 happy owners. I am actively involved with hundreds of Wyndham owners and can say we are a very unhappy bunch with the corporate greed and dishonesty that runs rampant through Wyndham. You can search for my posts about this among other Ripoff Reports. I wish you luck with your continued employment in a company that has recently laid off hundreds of employees last month. Bill

Having worked in the timeshare industry for almost 15 years, I am shocked on what companys can get away with. After getting divorced with 3 kids, finding myself in a financial crisis I found this industry. After really learning about the industry I found myself trapped, due to no college education. Also no way to make as much money, but I refuse to lie to clients. Most companys hire as i/c instead of employees, although workers are treated as employees. I worked for geo-holidays for about 1 month, but resigned due to unbelievable training practices. Mike Muldoon I was told is the owner, and I worked at the Jockey Club. We were told to make up numbers during training about the renovation of the jockey club, since no one seemed to know the actual amount. This way we can be on the same page and it would seem like we were being honest. This is only one example. We were also told to be as vague as possible. They never asked for an application, address, or transfered my license. I took this job because of a friend who was already working at that location. Now I am trying to contact the company about my commissions, with no luck. I am told only Mike Muldoon or Dave Russ can authorize any information about my commissions. I can't get a number or a call back. I previously worked for tahiti village, which was bought by goldman sacks, and dropped commision by about 30 percent. There is a class action suit being brought by i/c because we are really employees.

Hi Stephanie. Im sorry you got ripped off. That would make me extremely angry and frustrated. I have worked in timeshare sales for 8 years (my entire post college-adult life), and unfortunately, like anywhere else in the world, there are some bad apples. I dont work for Starpoint or Star Point and never have. My company is reputable, honest, and full of the most wonderful people I have ever met. We are a multi-billion dollar-new york stock exchange company and every year are ranked as one of the top companies in America to work for. We have over 800,000 happy owner (OWNERS-NONE of the STUFF you went through) I could type forever about this. If you havent noticed Im proud of my company and what I do. My frustration lies in the fact that I work for Wyndham Vacation Resorts, formally Fairfield Resorts, headlined in your irresponsible "Ripoff Report" I dont know how or where AKA Fairfield Resorts came from, but its way off base. We have never been or have been affiliated with Star point Resorts. For you to have thrown that name on a headline (either knowingly or not that you had bad info) without getting your facts straight first is incredibly irresponsible. You have literally taken money from the hands of good and very hard working people. You have deprived children and families of peace of mind. I would bet you've taken money out of my pocket through this article since you posted it in 2005. Again, Im sorry you got ripped off and I love that you are calling the company on the carpet. Companies like that give the entire industry a bad reputation which it doesnt come close to deserving. I BEG you to please remove FAIRFIELD RESORTS from your headline. Have at it w Starpoint, but let us be, please.

The company has moved to Lynnwood. I wish the guy from Kirkland would have published address and name they are doing business under so people know.. as well as the individual who falsely sold him like Stephanie from Vegas did. He mentioned he believed they flew the coup, but it is easy to provide buying clients with a number that rings to a back line that is never or rarely answered. They have been swindling people for years; Washington state business records reveal as far back as 1995 - could be longer as the list of names are endless: Advantage, Ultima, SVC-Pacific, Shell Vacations, Vacation Marketing Services, Starpoint, Starpointe Resort Group and as you can see the offices travel into different states - who knows how many - Oregon, Nevada, where else? Always the same scenario... false misrepresentations and strong arm tactics - when comsumers call to complain they get nothing but run around. Innocent people being victimized. KIRO 7 busted the Shell Vacations office in Lynnwood. They have lost numerous court battles with the Attorney General. Recent reports are now coming up on boards like these. Do a search on www.thetimesharebeat.com in the Street Talk section using "SVC-Pacific" and you'll find links to these reports. Comments by people in the industry further substantiate that they are fraudulent and couldn't sell straight if their life depended on it. Why haven't their liscenses been revoked? Why hasn't something substantial been done to stop these criminals from victimizing innocent people and stealing their money (recording 2.4 million in just one month!!!)? I hope some more people come forward and post stories on the hardships that have been caused due to the financial burdens after being ripped off. More importantly, that these people are stopped.

Hi, My husband and I ended up picketing by are selfs out side there door and it took all of 10 minutes to get all are money back. I found out that they make about 1-2 Million a weekend ripping people off. I highly recommend making some picket signs and get a blow horn and picket IT WORK! They rather give you your money back than loose big dollars. Go on a Saturday when they are really busy. Do not bother calling them they strung us along for 2 months saying they were trying to get approval to give us are money back.

New location of company. Starpoint now/was in Lynnwood,WA. I just purchase a RCI Points Entry Program only to find out today it doesn't do what was represented ply chared 4 times as much as another dealer. I looked at the agreement and it says Starpoint Resort Group Inc, a Nevada Corporation so I assume it is the same company. The "Escrow Holder" is InterCity Escrow Services. None of the phones answer at the Lynnwood location so I suspect they flew the coup!

This is a dispicable company and they should be shut down. Let me know if you are still planning to picket. I have to arrange to fly there.
