I purchased my brand new Nissan Altima 2015 in late October last year, used it for daily commute to work which is only about 25 mins away from home. I was happy with it until my first oil change at the dealership, Sterling McCall Nissan on Hwy 59 Stafford TX, 2 weeks ago. My car engine died 3 days after the oil change, please note that I am talking about a brand new vehicle which I just bought for about 5 months and has only 5000ish miles on it.

This is how it happened. I did my first oil change on a Saturday, did not drive the car on Sunday. Then on Tuesday, while driving on highway, a warning sign “LOW OIL PRESSURE” showed up, the car then stops and I was still in the middle of road. IT WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS!!! Luckily, other cars avoid me and I was able to get off the road safely. My friend and I called towing service and got the car to dealership, then checked the dipstick by engine and realized that IT IS COMPLETELY DRY….!!! At this point I seriously assume the dealership drain the engine oil and forgot to add new oil during the oil change 3 days ago.

So we waited hours at Sterling McCall services, finally the service consultant came asked us to leave the car for investigation, said that they will contact me soon (so why don’t they just said this when we walked in? and not to have us waste our time waiting there?). Anyways, I waited all day Wednesday but no calls at all, so I called service center myself, the consultant told me that they are still trying to find out the issue. Then I waited again until Thursday afternoon (it really bothered me that they did not provide me a rental car at this point, I had to ask around for help while wait for the response), I called again to check the status. This time, they just said they will replace my engine and nothing else. It is covered warranty, but I will have to wait approximately 3 weeks (or maybe longer!) for my car to be fixed.

SO a new car with engine died at 5000ish miles. I know I can’t just assume Sterling McCall messed up my car during the oil change because they avoid to answer my question “why there is no engine oil in the car?” But even if not, it would still be sucks for a brand new, just out of factory vehicle, to die in 5 months.

So my car will be fixed BUT with a major repair on my car record, which depreciates my car value. I am NOT happy with this and TRULY DISAPPOINTED with Nissan’s service center!!!!!!

I just want to share my story, so buyers like me can be aware of what could happen!

If you are to purchase a new car, make sure to go with a bigger brand/more reliable car company so you won’t get a bad lemon car or let unreliable dealership service center mess up your car!!!

If they forgot to put oil in the car after the oil change you would NOT have even made it home on Saturday unless you just happen to live across the street and coasted home.  As within seconds of you starting the car the Low Oil Pressure light would have come on.

Had it been an actual engine issue, you most likely would have seen other "signs" of something wrong such as smoke from your engine/tailpipe or other noises.  One other possibility is that the oil plug was not completely tight so oil was leaking for a few days, but if that was the case you would have noticed oil on your driveway or under your car.  The other is that the oil plug just fell out on that Tuesday causing you to loose oil. Of course without any details these are all just possibilities.

They are fixing the engine under warranty, and your only real issue is if they provided you with a rental car and possibly if you want to claim some "lost value".  For that perhaps you may have a valid complaint.

However, if you think that the only reason this happened was because your car wasn't a bigger brand or you went to a smaller "unreliable" dealership..you are 100% WRONG.  If this was in fact human error, unless you know something the rest of us don't.  Humans work everywhere.

Please read very important about Permanent engine damage

it's very important that you read what I'm telling you I'm a consumer advocate and I occasionally do a radio show on this website. Radio show that I do is about the automotive and RV industry you go to the very top of any page you'll see a Rip Off Report live click it and listen to the two automotive and RV shows.

You bought a brand-new car and you are entitled to a warranty for the life of the warranty. When you run an engine without oil in it for any extended period of time you do permanent damage to several parts inside the engine and I'm sure that many in the industry will not tell you this if it's their fault. I believe somebody's going to try to cover their a** regarding this issue and make you believe that no damage has been done to your engine that simply is not true.

you have several parts inside that Injun that rely on oil at all times when the engine is running. Let me mention some of the parts all of the seals that keep the engine oil inside the car need to be lubricated or they get hot and burn up and then if you're lucky and you can continue to keep the engine running after oil is poured back into the engine sooner or later the engine oil seals will start to leak way before their time is up

The crankshaft needs to be lubricated at all times when the engine is running

all of the bearings that reduce the friction of the crankshaft when it is spinning need oil at all times. Connecting rods that connect the crankshaft to the pistons need to be lubricated at all times when the engine is running.

The Pistons to go up and down it doesn't matter what do you have a V-6 or V-8 or a four-cylinder need to be lubricated at all times when the engine is running otherwise the piston rings bird up and compression is lost and then you lose drastic amount of power in your engine not to mention problems with in missions testing because it's starting to burn oil

in your engine more than likely you have a timing chain chain keeps the crankshaft and the camshafts in perfect timing together The camshaft need oil at all times when the engine is running as well as the bearings that reduce the friction of the camshaft when it's spinning. You also have intake and exhaust valves that need to be lubricated when the engine is running let's not forget the oil pump in the well pump can burn out in a very short period of time when the engine is running even if they put oil back in your car and started up and you think everything is okay there's been drastic amount of damage inside the engine as well as inside the oil pump which reduces the amount of oil that the pump can pump when the engine is running.

make no mistake serious amounts of damage has been done to your car it's their fault if they refused or forgot to put oil in your car after supposedly changing the oil. You personally need to contact Nissan motor Corporation and tell them what happened if the oil was changed at the dealership and you need printed proof that you had oil changed at that dealership and the number of miles that was documented on that car during the time of the oil change

I normally don't take this much time spending riding on Rip Off Report's but it's important that you the dealership and the manufacture all on the same page regarding the damages been done to your car. When I say damage I mean damage that has not shown up yet but it will.

Think of the engine oil pump as the engines heart when people have heart attacks sometimes their heart does not pop another blood for adequate blood circulation. Same thing happens to an engine oil pump if there's damage done to it and parts of the metal have been scarred drastically because it did not have oil the amount of oil flow throughout the engine will be dramatically reduced.

personally I feel they need to put a brand-new engine from Nissan motor Corporation into your car. I'm sure that somebody at the dealership is not going to want to admit that they screwed up that's the problem with a lot of dealerships across the country. They hire extremely cheap labor to change the oil in cars they don't make a lot of money changing the oil in cars most of the time it's just a tactic to get you to come down there so they can tell your car parts and find things wrong with it when it's an older car.

If you do not demand another new engine put in that car I guarantee you and I personally guarantee you that you are in the future going to regret not listening to what I say. You need a complete engine replaced. If you do not do this you were going to have future problems and you're not going to be happy with his car in the very near future trust me.

very first thing you need to do is to contact Nissan motor Corporation right away facsimile copy of the receipt showing that you had oil changed at the dealership hopefully it was a Nissan dealership you will have warranty issues in the very near future when you start acquiring miles on this car.

you need to let them know that the service manager needs to know that you are going to make a big issue out of this and the issue is the engine needs to be replaced because you need to see the damage done to the car and the only way for that to happen is for the engine to be taken completely out of the car and ripped completely apart and look at the scoring in the damage to the rods in the bearings and the crankshaft.

not to mention diminished value. I don't know what else to say to you to make you believe what I'm telling you is the truth. I could go on posting comments on this report for hours but I'm telling you you need to contact Nissan motor corporation and let them know what has happened to you.

You need to print off a copy of what I'm telling you and give it to the sales manager the general sales manager and service manager that way they take you serious because I'm not going to let this issue go away.

trust me on this also there is a regional Nissan business development manager in your area probably cover several different Nissan stores in a couple of different states do not listen to him when he tries to talk you out of requesting a complete new engine in your car..

please understand I'm sure they're not gonna be happy with their email address posted on this website but it's imperative that you get that engine in that car we completely replaced.

please understand the contact information below was placed on this Rip Off Report for you to let everybody know that you know how to get contact information headed to dealership needs to be made a believer out of you that you are not going away and you want a new engine in your car that's exactly what you paid for and if they hired a circus clown to change the oil and is so stupid to forget to put new oil in the car they have a problem it's their expense not yours.

and I'm hoping that you use the contact information below burn up their phones burn up their email addresses and make sure that this information is not going anywhere and none of their contact information is going to be removed from this website.  Trust me all the people below will probably not be happy that their contact information has been posted on this website I'm sorry but the issue needs to be not flown under the rug and the issue needs to be addressed of you receiving nothing less than a brand-new engine in your car because that's what you paid for my fellow American

and remember anybody to tell you that you don't need a new engine needs a check up from the neck up  and I'm also going to ask you to post an update on your Rip Off Report telling everybody what the dealership did to repair this issue.

don't let anybody bulls*** you that the engine has not had damage done to it because it has  even right now if they put new oil in your car and you still driving it you got ripped off you got an engine in your car but it's life has been drastically reduced insist on getting a new engine in your car. And trust me your finance company will not care if you're driving around in a damaged engine just as long as you make the payments on the car even if it will not run.

You will see that I have the ability to piss people off it's really easy to do and I'm not hiding my name again it's Stick Bogart you need to make sure that that engine gets replaced.

use the contact information that I've posted below to your advantage and do anybody else who reads this use the contact information that I posted whenever you need it I'm sure that somebody's going to change their email address or change their phone number but until that time use this information to your advantage.

Running Out of Oil

If you run out of engine oil, your engine will fail. Inside of the engine, there are fast moving parts, with a lot of potential friction. The engine oil is the lubricant that keeps parts sliding against each other smoothly, instead of grinding each other down. If the engine runs out of oil, it will start to grind, and then seize up, stalling the vehicle. Your engine will be damaged and possibly ruined. Many drivers will not get a warning about the lack of engine oil until it is too late. Newer vehicles do have more diagnostic tools like an engine oil pressure sensor unit and dashboard tools that may help to identify low oil situations. In older vehicles, drivers often need to manually check the oil themselves, as the "check oil" dash light will not be sufficient to warn them of a low oil situation.

Engine Maintenance: The Role it Plays

As mentioned, even dirty oil can have a negative impact on your engine. Over time, particulate matter may build up in the oil. These particles can contribute to scoring of engine parts. That's why manufacturers recommend routine oil and filter changes to make sure the oil in your engine is clean. Lots of drivers also do a manual test by pulling out the dipstick and rubbing the used oil between their fingers to see if they can feel any grit or hard particles. Changing the oil filter is important because most of them are only rated for 3000 miles, the recommended mileage for an oil change. That's why most shops change the filter with every oil change for a vehicle.
