I was using an internet translation service when a Pop-up appeared telling me that I was "today's winner of a Florida vacation for $1200". I phoned the toll free number and spoke with John Wells, a fast talking salesman who said the "deal" here is that: "We offer you 4 days and 3 nights in Orlando, plus a cruise to the Bahamas, free passes to Disneyworld and Magic Kingdom.....all YOU have to do is agree to visit our time-share condos during a scheduled tour."

According to John, one person in ten who is taken on this tour will purchase a time share condo in Florida....hence the motivation for the promotion. I kept thinking and saying: "I've never won anything before!" The level of detail on the resorts, recreation, award-winning hotels, etc. was stunning. All I had to do was get myself from Newfoundland to Orlando.....AND pay $500 for me and my partner, to secure our reservation, which was good for 18-months.

After wasting a half and hour of my time describing wonders I can only imagine, John wanted my Visa Card number. I explained that I do not give my card number over the phone. Secondly, I want to receive all the information of this offer through the post, in writing. Thirdly, I could not make a snap decision immediately, without consulting my partner first.

Immediately, a woman came on the line and offered to connect me with Summer Bay Resorts legal department so that I would have the reassurance I need to make a decision immediately. The more I was pressured to give out my VISA number, the more suspicious I became. I stuck to my guns, and I'm glad I did not give Summer Bay Resorts my Visa Card number because I've just read on "Ripoff Report" that a Nova Scotian was tricked the same way and now cannot get his money back.

I checked out the company owner - Joe H. Scott, Sr. - and found 2 references: one stating that he was a vacation 'developer', the other stating that he manufactures doors. As the old adage goes: "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is fraud." Cathy who was almost "ripped off"!!!

I also received an invite through my email saying I had won a trip. After calling, I got the same feeling...that I was being ripped off. After two years (on and off) of researching this company we decided to go for it. My family and I purchased a discounted week at Summer Bay and of course, had to go to the timeshare presentation. We had to reschedule our trip several times due to my husband's job and each time SBR was extremely accomodating. They always gave us the dates we needed and we hadn't even been there yet! Once we got there, we were so impressed that we bought a timeshare and have enjoyed the Points program ever since. This company is NOT fraudulent in any way. The resort is beautiful and the people are wonderful to work with. I highly recommend going!

I'd just like to say, I keep reading these complaints and such on summer bay and I find it funny. Yes it is a time share solicitation, which you are told up front and yes it runs around 4-500 dollars to purchase, and yes I agree the 90min seminar givin at free lunch or breakfast is a pain in the neck, but, this is our third time purchasing the package from summer bay, and I just have to say we have a great time everytime, the rooms are incredible. and all of the other packages they throw in you recieve with out question. you only have to do 90 min for 5 or 6 different vacations. so for those of you who complain about not getting a refund, what the hell did you purchase it for in the first place, and if you logged into the summerbay website which is http://www.mysummerbay.com for those who claim there is no website, or you can call them anytime with questions. we have only had great times with them, except for the dreaded 90 min sales pitch. next time people, read the contract they will email to you! and no I do not work for them, I own a carpet cleaning company in south florida
