In early 2002 my husband and I received information in the mail form Sweepstakes Clearinghouse about a laptop computer that we could buy for $500.00 after the $400.00 voucher was sent in. We looked through all of the information that was provided and there was no indication at that point in time that it was a refurbished computer.

We paid all the money owed on it and received our "new" computer in October of 2002. Two weeks ago the system board went bad and when I called the technical support number provided I was told that my warranty had just expired and that I would need to take it to a computer repair technician to have looked at.

Since then I have come to find out that the system board that is in the laptop is an older model and is infact a refurbished system. I have been trying to find a system board for it so that it can be replaced and have not been able to find one.

I spent $500.00 on a computer that was supposed to be new,is not, and now does not work. This company scammed us, ripped off our money, and now we don't have a computer that works.

I used their services once many years ago. I ordered a refurbished IBM laptop. I understood when I ordered it that it was refurbished. It finally arrived after I sent them the final payment. One should remember that different brands of computers and other items work differently. Most likely if and when I had problems related to using this computer it was because of the system which was windows 95 and it was an IBM laptop. Somebody who worked on it ( it was my fault..remember that windows 95 will not boot up properly when the power is cut while using it ) they said the system restore boot up disk had a virus in it. Otherwise I did not have any real problem with the system board or anything..I call it computer pot luck. As far a reporting that you did not get satifactory service from a seller the better business bureau may be able to help you resolve the problem so at least you can get a refund. Don't give up. This is not a reflection on IBM brands but one must shop around and ask questions, do research to find out which brand of computer is best suited to their wants and needs.
