Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
My son was fired from Taco Bell after 5 months, one month short of them giving him any benefits. He worked for 3 months without a work permit (no problem for them). He was constantly threatened with his job, then the next day, he was rewarded by the same manager, leading us to believe she had some sort of agenda to confuse him with. She grabbed him alot, and called him "sweetie", her being latina, hired mostly latinos and latinas, and my son was the lone or one of the few "white" boys.

So, whenever she felt like talking about him, she spoke in spanish. Since we do live in California, Spanish is like a second language to alot of us, and it is encouraged in school, so my son took a couple years of the language, and was able to understand the hateful things she was saying to the laughing mexican co workers.

She wrote him up 3 times for small things, like having a 20 dollar bill in his drawer, bringing a skateboard to work, his only transportation, and her making him leave it outside, to which it got stolen, and supposedly, talking on his cell phone while on break (outside the restaurante), the final straw was when a customer came in and didn't give him the proper change, he had to ask her to open the cashier drawer so he could correct it, and she said he was fired.

He then went outside, and she said, oh, sweetie, i will give you one more chance no? So, he goes back inside, and while on the food line, drops, accidentally enough lettuce to fill a small taco, about 2 cents worth. He offered to pay, and she said,

NO, THIS IS ENOUGH, YOU ARE NOW TERMINATED. Did I mention that she had already hired his replacement a week prior?

Plus, when she fired him, she did not have his check that day, which is a clear violation of labor laws. You fire someone, you pay them that day, they quit, they get paid next pay period.

Plus, she has yet to give us his final check stub. It seems to have gone missing.

He worked when he wasnt scheduled, gave all he had, worked after 12 a.m., was asked to go "beat up a skinhead" that was loitering around the restaurante. It was his first job, and loosing it, after working so hard, has devastated him. He has lost all confidance. This woman worked so hard on his young mind, while he tried to please her, that i am wondering if my son will need counciling now. He is not so much the go-getter I was.

I will not allow myself to go inside that place, lest I get hold of her and rattle her brains a bit.

Oh, i thought of going to the corporate office, but this stuff on this site has discouraged me. What good will that do him? Best he gets right back on that horse and finds a better job, with a good environment. Its just not worth the fight.

I will tell you this, that manager never washes her hands after going to the restroom so someone is going to get sick eventually.

I will just be glad when my son gets the confidance level back up again to look and hope for some kind of employment.

SHAME ON YOU, YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE.

#2UPDATE EX-employee responds

Thu, December 30, 2004

I worked for Taco Bell for 1 month for the second time in 2 years. I am 45 with a disabled child. I called in to work in accordance with the rules. I was given write-ups that were unbeknownst to me. My child is diabled and cannot go to daycare, The company was aware of my child's disability. I did not miss work. I had an appointment, told my boss within 48 hours, she scheduled me to report to work one hour later that ususal and I did, I worked 5 hours that day. The next day after work she gave me a write up, stating that it was an unexcused absence for the previous day that I did work. How is that Possible? absent means, you are not present is that correct? Many comments were made about some of my physical attributes in a joking way. And there were many gestures by other employees that were absolutely absurd! These incidents were recorded and witnessed by customers quite often! The boss spoke of spitting in food incidents and talked about sexual activity. The general manager and here managers would indulge in weed and transform upon their return which is also recorded. The area manager produced proof of being a part of this suit also her and the general manger are the key players. Please call if there are any questions and if I can be of any assistance to you with any problems you may have had with this company. Sincerely, P. Anthony 12/29/2004 By the way, my daughter has been sick and hospitalized since the incident of my termination occurred. I was a good worker and worked hard. I even was made to put the truck order away by myself the saturday before I was fired. I never received a break until the day of my termination. Thank you for your time

What happened to your son wasnt fair, no doubt, and it's obvious you're upset over the series of events that have happened. Ever consider calling the general manager, district manager, or even division manager to resolve this problem? Just posting your story on this site will not solve your problem alone. And I doubt your son will need counseling. Thats just overkill and taking it a bit far. Best of luck to you and your son.
