Depending on what kind of T.V. you bought, that might be why you would receive a gift card in lieu of the same T.V. With new federal guidelines and FCC regulations, all of the T.V.'s sold now have to meet certain regulations to be sold in retail stores. Target discontinued many of the televisions it has sold over the last couple of years in preparation of this federal compliance. Chances are, if you bought the t.v. that long ago, they no longer had the same T.V. to replace it with. Whether you want to admit it or not, your warranty did serve the purpose it was supposed to, since with a warranty you are guaranteed replacement, repair or refund of the item. As for tax not being included in the refund, that could have something to do with state or federal tax laws. When I had an appliance repair, I was told what local repair shop provides repair for my appliance. I took it there, it was repaired and the shop billed the manufacturer for the work. I don't know any other reason except for the aforementioned, why you would have had so much trouble.
