Hello,

I had a home built by Taylor Homes and it was the worst decision of my life.  Little didI realize that they subcontract everything (they have a superintendent that pulls in twice a week snaps some pictures and calls it a day).   you would call the superintendednt (We had 4 total, I guess they all quit or get hurt on the job in their piece of s*** trucks that they drive everywhere)  One super was building houses in three states.  No wonder I never met him

We should of walked in the sales phase.  They will promise you the moon to get you to sign on the line by the end of the month.  The sales rep spent his whole life calling someone else to answer the most basic questions.  Little stuff like charging 2000 bucks to change a paint color.  seems a little crazy to me.

They do not practice the most basic of building construction principles.  They advertise two layers of sherwin williams paint - oh my to get the walls primmed it was extra.  Really - the can of paint says walls must be primed.  When I asked if they were going to tape the housewrap (the manuf. instruction says it must be) they stated we build 100% code complient homes.  Great but you did not install the product as it was designed.  We had a crew of mexican workers that would pee and poop all over the place, I guess it was too hard to walk to the john.

Keep in mind they will want paid the moment the framing is done.  They will want 60% of the contract price.  The bank sent an appraisser who said 42% was done.  The basically intimidated me saying liens and lawsuits would start if I did not pay them the cash.  I am sorry but you had my morgage papers.  A bank will not loan you more money than what is done - that simple.

The foundation on our house was a mess.  First the measurments were way off and it had to be redone.  Then the second crew of mexicans that drove from Ohio laid an extra course of block.  When we were done we had to pay taylor homes 5.50 per extra block that was laid.

The most unethical thing ever presented to us was a change order for some things we asked for.  On top of the change order fees, they put a clause in saying they would wave a few fees if I wrote a glowing letter of recommendation at the end of the job.  Really paying for referrals, they should just join a BNI.

I ended up hiring a licensed home inspector (keep in mind contractors do not need licenses in Indiana).  He was the best 500 bucks I could spend.

Three years later we have had several problems pop up and have paid to get them corrected.  Little things like the sump pump not having a check valve and the pipe discharging to the outside about a foot above grade.  Pipe freezes in winter and the pump burns up.  I am jsut glad I no longer have to take off work to meet with their moron of a warranty manager.  He should sell cars he is such a slick talker.  I am glad I finally received attic insulation after paying outragous electric bills the first year I lived there (I guess I should have checked).  I am finally glad I no longer receive phone calls from the sales rep to have people walk thru my home since the model home is dirty or being remodeled.

I recommend finding a local builder who willl put the on site time into building your dream home instead of a multi-state firm who overworks the guys supervising to the poiunt where they never show up.

Dear Consumer; We appreciate Rip-Off Reports for allowing this opportunity to respond to the comments. As everyone knows—there are ALWAYS two sides to every story. We understand that it's impossible to satisfy everyone 100%. But our track record speaks for itself. Our family and Team have built homes for THOUSANDS of satisfied customers for over 56-Years. A VERY high percentage have taken the time to express their satisfaction to us verbally, in writing and as repeat customers...some have built with Taylor Homes on numerous occasions, referred numerous family, friends, coworkers, ETC. Although we're not perfect---NO ONE is. And in this industry of hard core construction—there are a lot of details and people involved in the process. Still, we honestly strive to achieve customer satisfaction through communication (both written and verbal) and building quality homes at affordable prices. This helps our customer obtain good equity in their lifetime investment. Our homes typically appraise for several thousands more that our customers overall investment. Furthermore, our prices as well as the payment terms are clearly outlined and agreed to (in writing) before construction ever starts. No one ever forces our valued customers to select/pay for an option that they do not want not do we ever force any customer to pay beyond the agreed to terms. Although we can't be certain of the identity of this un-named consumer, I along with others on our Team have reviewed our records, and we were unaware of any outstanding issues as stated in the “complaint”. I personally invite this person or any other reader to contact me at 502-582-1800 to discuss this matter further.

Taylor Homes stands ready, willing and able to address any legitimate claim that they may have. We take customer satisfaction very seriously; perhaps that's why over 50% of our business comes from referrals. Taylor Homes works diligently to satisfy each of our valued customers! We carefully outline what our customers should expect (even human errors and delays) and what their responsibilities are. It’s important to point out that Taylor Homes is not a Turnkey builder. Because Taylor builds homes on land owned by our customers, it is necessary that our customers take on various responsibilities in the home building process. In many cases, our customers build sweat equity and perform a large amount of responsibilities before, during and after the construction process. Not to mention, they see a lot of the ups/downs of the day to day building process. Which can and does create additional aggravations. We truly understand the value of our customers' hard working dollar, and our business model allows us to offer the most affordable, quality brick homes available. This is demonstrated by our competitively low prices per square feet and consistently high resale values. Options such as paint colors, ETC. along with their prices is just that—“Options” they can choose to accept them or not. In fact, we’re very flexible and even allow customers to do work themselves. It’s important to also note that all our homes pass and/or exceed all local and state inspection requirements. We also maintain all the required licenses in every state and location where we do business. We are fully insured and bonded where required. We are one of the most respected scatter-built home-builders in the region, and recognition's of our success, workmanship and quality include Professional Builder Magazine, GIANT 400 and other national magazines. Feel free to check with local offices of the Better Business Bureau where we do business, to see that we are an Accredited Member in good standing.

In fact, are Winners of the Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics (due to the nature of this business, that’s unheard of by a home-builder). We are also a member of the National Home-builders Association and various Chambers of Commerce. Taylor Homes is also an active participant in the communities we build - helping support local events and regional charities. We understand the importance of a respectful partnership between client and builder. Building a home can be a difficult and often stressful experience, and we set out to make it as comfortable and satisfying as possible. Sometime emotions run high—but we always strive to work past any and all issues. To help alleviate aggravations, etc. we encourage our customers take the time they need to review our contracts, print designs and other important construction information along with whomever they choose. We understand building a new home is a huge investment. For everyone's benefit, theirs and ours, we WANT our customers to have all their questions and concerns addressed. In an effort to discuss the allegations outlined in the complaint, I hope to hear from this unknown person and any other consumers who have any questions as a result of this report.
