Marilyn: You are exactly correct. When you file a claim for injuries, employers are KNOWN to starve the employee into giving up on applying for benefits. You might try to apply for TEMPORARY disability. You'll have to find a lawyer to speed it up. Of course, the lawyer will receive his/her portion but there's NO hope otherwise. I know of one person who applied for disability in about 1994. The person had a severe back injury from medical equipment falling on her head and back. The person just received her first disability check about three months ago. She has been in such pain that she had to have someone take her to the doctor each time. Even heavy pain medicine failed to help. That's our Social Security Disability System at work. I know of a man who applied for Social Security Disability in 1960. He was denied but six months later died as a result of the disabilities. The abusive Social Security Disability System needs to be reviewed to provide help to people who REALLY need help. There's NO need for an injured person to kill him/herself because their claim was turned down. People need help and the help needs to come faster that it currently does. It shouldn't take six months to get an answer from Social Security. People shouldn't have to file lawsuits to get what they rightfully deserve! I recently tried to help a very disabled man get some help through SSI so he could have money to live on. It takes about six months and 2-3 doctor visits to get a sheet of paper to move. Computers should speed replies instead of slow the process. Often an injury grows worse from delays in treatment. Treatment should NOT be delayed. Private physicians should have precedence over Social Security Disability physicians. Social Security pays their contracted physicians to deny benefits. They don't KNOW the patient. Their doctors have no earthly idea as to the full extent of the injury. I find it very interesting AND strange that Social Security Disability experts EXPECT the injured person to find transportation to their doctors. If the person was NOT disabled, they COULD take themselves to the doctor. It's an abusive system that needs to be reformed to protect disabled employees instead of promote continuance of the disability because they don't want to take action NEEDED in a prompt manner! Hang in there, Marilyn. If you can find a way to get some help from DHS, maybe that will help. Friends and neighbors usually help, too. Our own Social Security System SHOULD help you. One recent concern I have is the money flowing from Social Security and Medicare into the coffers of DHS as a result of the ASFA. There may not be a penny left in Social Security by the time DHS gets finished DOUBLING Adoptions for rewards and bonuses. Thirty-three states have already more than doubled their adoptions so they can get their rewards and bonuses from Social Security and Medicare. There may be nothing left for disabled citizens. Best wishes in your recovery.
