Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I purchased a hand-knotted wool persian rug for $788.00 4 years ago from The Dump in Houston (I know, nice name, huh?). In that time it became dirty and was in need of cleaning.  There were no labels on it as to how to clean it but I spoke with several "oriental" rug cleaners in town as well as read many articles on cleaning a rug like this.  I learned that you should never steam clean or dry clean it becasue the heat and/or chemicals would ruin the wool fibers.  I learned that places that clean these rugs professionally do just as one would do them selves.  Lay the rug out, use cold water and mild soap, rinse, extract and air dry.  As a matter of fact I have another and similar rug that my husband purchased in Pakistan and this is how all rugs are cleaned there and has worked well for our other rug many times over.

Immediately upon adding water to the rug I purchased at the Dump, it looked like we had murdered someone. The red dye began running and discoloring other light parts of the rugs.  We never even got to use any soap but rather rinsed and rinsed, literally for hours on end.  It became apparent that the color runs were not going to stop so I contacted Haynes Furniture (the parent comapny of The Dump) and they told me that there was nothing they could do as too many years had passed.  Well one does not usually clean arug all that often so this answer did not really fit the situation but they also told me that the local store manager could make another decsion so I contacted The Dump in Houston.

The manager aplogized but told me the rug was not washable.  I challenged the fact that the rug was not labled as such.  He acknowledged that to be true.  He went on to say I should have dry-cleaned it and I informed him that dry cleaning was never recommneded for a hand knotted, wool, persian rug.  And that I had another similar rug that washed very well with water, etc.  He said he could do nothing but would check with the manufactuer.  I have not heard back from him.

I would like to obtain a store credit for $788.00 so that I may purtrchase another, hopefully color-fast and not disposable rug.
