First off, I would like to state the difference of not agreeing with a company and getting ripped off. Not agreeing with a company after originally accepting the terms and conditions does not warrant you the right to complain at all in my opinion. Or just simply the feeling of not agreeing afterward does not give you the right to post here in my opinion. (Technically it is, however, as long as you have proof of doing business according to ripoffreport.com) Getting ripped off, however, is another ball game. It happens when a seller/merchant says you can do one thing and claims to have you protected in writing, but completely disregards it, which in this case by pulling a card out of their behind because they do not want to bite the bullet in an unfortunate mishap of an employee that mistakenly cost a large amount of money. $445.20

In this review, you will find out how The North Face at Somerset Collection/Mall made mistakes and instead of holding themselves accountable to their own rules and regulations in which they violated, they took it out on me, the innocent customer. I definitely thought hard about whether or not I should post this. It took a while because I did give them several chances by calling them directly multiple times as well as their headquarters. After talking to the police and lawyers, I came to the conclusion that I would in fact win the case here, but decided to not follow through due to spending 3-4 times more than what they costed me.

I originally walked in to check out a parka for a potential Christmas gift in Dec. 2016. Found out it was out of stock. Could not look at it in person, but was pressured into ordering it offline in store off of their iPad. I ordered it offline inside the store, paid for it in cash on the spot. I made sure before I handed over the money that I would be able to get cash back for the transaction in the event where I choose to return it. I was told that would not be an issue. Turned out that I bought the wrong parka and I just wanted to flat out return it. When I attempted to return the coat, I was told that only store credit could be issued. $445.20 tied up with them for NO GOOD REASON! They claimed that since it was technically an "online purchase" paid in cash, this is the only way to return. This was not explained to me at the time of purchase when I asked if I could return in the event it is the wrong one/wrong size. This is not the end of the shady, unprofessional business ethics demonstrated by the crew here.

After being stuck with the gift card, 4-5 months later I eventually tried to use it at another North Face Store. I then learned that there was $0.00 left on the card upon trying to use it! Miraculously the funds were gone! I then contacted the North Face Store at Somerset and they told me that someone from Georgia had called claiming this card was lost and that they moved to Georgia and suggested that it should be reissued on another card. So the careless employee working there mailed it to a scam artist who ended up with it! That's it... a PHONE CALL somehow warranted an "OUT OF STATE CALLER" the funds and a new card! I asked for it back and they told me it had already been spent online! ON THE BACK OF THE CARD IT CLEARLY STATES THAT THE RECEIPT AND PHOTO ID MUST BE PRESENTED to obtain a lost or stolen card. I had the card the whole time in my possession with no idea the funds were taken electronically without me using it. Talked to two different managers. They justified the incident by saying that they never had a problem like this ever and that they never required an ID in order to "reissue" a card. Funny how they admitted that they did what their rules state on the back of the card ZERO times. They do not take accountability and just because they got lucky the first X amount of times, it was okay to allow me to lose out. After calling their headquarters, I learned that they are as dumb as a sack of potatoes and could not even comprehend the steps of what happened. After getting transferred multiple times they said they will get back to me. Never did. Called a few more times after that and was told that they never faced an issue like this and that they apologize for my misfortune. My advice to North Face, LEARN TO TAKE ACCOUNTABILITY! They screwed up and got tricked somehow and took it out on the customer. For all I know this could be an inside job! After getting the police involved and talking to a few lawyers, I learned that this case will cost me far more than the $500 loss. I almost wanted to start a gofundme account so that I could afford to punish these people in order to win and prove a point. Every lawyer I talked to said the same thing. "You will win, but the case cost will be surmountable to the value of the stolen card obtained by a lack of following protocol by their staff." Please read the back of the card carefully, I am stating facts. This store messed up and instead of taking accountability for their mishap, they apologized for my misfortune and did nothing to get the money back to me that was rightfully mine. I understand that this is a rare situation, but come on this is what company policies are for! Apparently they are listed on the back of the card, but yet they were not followed resulting in my funds being unrightfully transferred to another card and spent immediately online. I have no proof to defame them with an accusation stating that this may be an inside job, but all I know is that if their employees followed the rules, they wouldn't have been tricked on my expense. Shame on you!

A report has been filed with the Shelby Township Police Department, where I resided at the time of the incident. (Law required me to file there, not Troy) There is proof that an employee at The North Face at Somerset Collection granted an individual (scam artist from Georgia according to Manager) funds which belonged to me over the phone which goes against the protocol stated on the back of the card. After talking to the police and being told this was a valid case, I learned that an individual named Aparis Unique Higgs was the person on the phone who "tricked" The North Face employee. There is no evidence that this woman is employed by The North Face of any location to prove that this is an inside job, but this does not mean that she was used as a decoy. At no point did anyone from The North Face company headquarters nor the location this incident occurred offered to compensate for what was taken from me in a scandalous way. I want the public to know that this company is run by a bunch of greedy souls!
