On 11/14/2006 I (the church secretary) received a call claiming to be updating information on an existing account. On 2/26/07 we received a call asking when we are going to pay the amount of $399.95 (plus interest) for the internet ad we placed.

We did not authorize an ad. Not at any time did they say they were selling ads. Now our church information is on this web site that we did not authorize and they are sending bills via fax and adding interest!

I get those calls all the time. They start with: We're calling to verify the information in your yellow pages ad". "Is all this information correct"? As soon as I hear what it is, I hang up. Another tipoff is on the caller ID. There is no caller ID number, which is kind of odd for a legitimate company and they're usually from india. They've been known to cut and splice "verbal authorization" on recordings, so I don't use the term "ok" over the phone, I use correct instead. You have to watch the scumbags.
