ANYONE WHO IS A SELF RESPECTING WRITER, DO NOT GET CAUGHT IN THEIR TRAP...THIS IS DISGUSTING AT WORST.

"Thanks for responding to my post. I am editing city-guide content and I am looking for writers who can work well and fast over the next two weeks.

Attached are two sample essays. As you will see, the essay itself is modest in its goals. It gives basic information about the city. A writer is expected to spend about a half hour researching the topic on the Internet and another hour and a half writing the essay. I am looking for people who can produce 4-5 essays per day.

The plan is to assign 32 cites to each writer with staggered milestone due-dates sprinkled throughout the next two weeks.

The pay is $42. each. The total is $1,512.

You'd be paid by direct-deposit, or if you prefer, by check, every two weeks, which in this case would be two weeks from your start date.

Our business, Thomas Riggs & Company, has been around since 1995. We focus on academic and reference books and more recently on electronic publishing products. We currently have long-term contracts with two publishers, Gale (Cengage) of Farmington Hills, Michigan, and Chadwyck-Healey (Proquest) of Cambridge, England. Among our ongoing products are biographies on writers, study guides of literary works, an anthology of nineteenth-century literary criticism, and a directory of information on actors. The web essays are for Gale.

If this is of interest to you, I can send you a contract, a sample formula for the essays, and then assign you your first group of US cities.

Best regards,

Jonathan Levine"

I worked the temporary job described in this listing. It took two weeks and required everything described in the listing. At the end of the two weeks I was paid in full. I have not worked for Thomas Riggs and Co. since, however I have faith that they would fulfill their obligations as an employer in the future.

Thomas Riggs & Company Is Legitimate and They Do Pay

I also worked on the city guide project this past January. I found everyone at the company to be helpful and quick to respond. I was also paid for my work according to the terms provided to me before I signed on. Most of my interaction was with Jonathan Levine. Every correspondence I received from him was professional and focused. There are quite a few people who could learn a thing or two about business ethics and decorum from this gentleman. Just before the scheduled pay date, my checkbook was stolen. I immediately closed the account and opened a new one, then notified Mariko Fujinaka of what had happened. I asked Mariko if they could send a check instead of attempting to direct deposit the payment. She was very gracious and took care of everything. My check arrived in a matter of days. The company also sent out an email on February 20 to thank everyone for their hard work on the project. That struck me as a nice touch that demonstrates Thoms Riggs values their relationships with their independent contractors and is not afraid to say so. Please do not let the original complaint prevent you from working with this company. As long as you follow the guidelines and submit your own original work, chances are you will enjoy the experience immensely.

Thomas Riggs is a well established publisher and this guy plagiarized his work and got busted!

I was also a freelance writer on this project and this guy is just pissed off because he got caught plagiarizing. Like any GOOD and legitimate publisher, all work is run through plagiarizing software. This guy got busted swiping content off Wikipedia. He was an idiot to post the email that verified he was kicked off the project due to plagiarism. Thomas Riggs is a well-established publisher that's been around for years. I was just paid for this project. I commend them for busting this guy. IF the guy had read his writer's guidelines it clearly stated they would be running all work through plagiarism software. This guy is just mad because he finally got caught. Who knows what other stuff he's swiped from other sites and has passed off as his own? The editors were great and I would love to work with them again as well.

Thomas Riggs & Co. is Legitimate

I, too, signed up as a freelance writer (independent contractor) for this project (city essays). The company is legitimate and I was paid for the work I completed. I do know, however, that all essay submittals were run through some very sophisticated plaigarism software, which detects even the smallest amount of copying/pasting. I assume that that was the issue for you here. Thomas Riggs & Co. was great to work with - very straigtforward and professional. My payment for work completed was timely, and I would be happy to take on assignments with them in the future.
