we took our son to a "day out with thomas" in stillwater, mn last fri. our train ride time was 9:00 a.m. the ride was about 20 minutes late, not that big of a deal unless you are in a train car with a bunch of two year olds. the kicker was the reason for the delay. a staff person came through our car and asked that toddlers sit in their parents' lap to free up seats so the "stand-by" customers could be seated. when we pointed out that we paid $20.00 for our son's seat she said, "that's what everybody says; but we overbook and that's the way we do it. you can take it up" with the ticket office after the ride."

i specifically remember the ticket policy. only children under two need not have a ticket and only if the child sat on the parent's lap. children 2 years and plus need a ticket. i thought, "okay, fair enough. when you are catering to the toddler crowd, they need tickets too." everyone in our car refused to give up their toddlers' seats. talk about "cheeky" and "yes" the ride was lame.

the activities were good but too few. they either have to stop overbooking and sell fewer tickets or have twice as mainy activities. waiting 20 minutes in line is not a toddlers' forte.
