A fraudulent charge for $729.62 was made to my bank Visa card on 7/3/07 by the Internet mail order company, TigerDirect.com. I noticed this on the morning of 7/4, notified my bank and called Tiger Direct customer support, who advised to call back on 7/5 (today).

Was advised by TigerDirect security personnel that an order for a Noika cell phone was shipped to Camden, NJ (I live in Fort Worth, TX, and am in their data base as such from a previous order). Would not tell me to whom the order was shipped, said they could only disclose this to law enforcement.

Tiger Direct refused to refund the fraudulent charge, but said they would treat it as a product return "if they got it back," and would not make the refund until then, and only if it was returned. Also said they would not pursue this with law enforcement.

They had my card number, address, phone number, etc., from a previous order on 5/2/07. This is a card I hardly ever use, so it is likely (but not proven) that the credit card data came from someone at Tiger Direct, from the previous purchase.

The final person I talked to, after insisting on speaking to a manager, was Jose Urrely. I had left my phone number and he called me. The person I spoke to prior to this was "Ozzie" at 800 955 1888 Ext. 5276.

There are several companies I feel comfortable purchasing from over the Internet. Tiger Direct is no longer one of them.

Hello John: Please be advised that as a measure of loss prevention, we have specific company procedures to adhere to when dealing with fraudulent charges. That said, you obviously did the right thing in notifying your credit card company first, and we do work with these companies in order to resolve cases of fraud. The name and address to which a fraudulent order ships is revealed to the authorities as part of the resolution process. Sincerely, Alex Tiger Direct Web Response
