I worked the New York Comic Convention with another model this past October . We both had found the ad on craigslist and submitted photos to the agency. We were accepted to work the event and were forwarded a contract and agency agreement which we both signed and returned. Overall, the agency was in good contact with us before the event. We worked all 4 days of New York Comic Convention and really established a strong relationship with the client. Some of the days, someone from the agency wrote us an email and we followed up when requested.

In the contract, it stated payment would not be considered late until after 90 days but never specified a window of payment. Since I switched addresses, I made sure to follow up with the agency.  I checked in approximately once every 6 weeks... more frequently as we approached the 90 day deadline and began a new year, asking when the projected time for payment was.

My last returned response from the agency was approximately 2 months ago.  7 days ago marked the 90 day payment. When the other model contacted me to inquire whether or not I had received my check, I decided to look for a phone number. When I couldn't find one, ripoff reports appeared with the same address and different company names that the agency director, Allen Knauer uses. Sure enough, the title of the contract in PDF version is IndyModels (the name of his old business).

A brief search showed several other models who have not been paid and even an article in the Chicago Tribune. When the other model tried the phone numbers listed... DISCONNECTED. I have continued to contact Mr. Knauer everyday asking about payment...No response!

After further research, I noticed that Allen claims to not pay models because they do not follow their contracts, so I asked him to please specify what was in violation if that is a reason for no pay. No response! After working extensively in tradeshows and promotional work (clients including BMW, Samsung, and others), I have never encountered a more unprofessional demeanor. Mr. Knauer needs to make us aware of what would cost us a $1500 penalty or pay us!

In my opinion, given the track record of Trade Show Hostesses, Indy Models, etc., it was never in the plan to pay us. I am writing because I believe other models need to be made aware of the unfair practices of Trade Show Hostesses. Please do not fall prey!

Contact Gained with TSH, Payment promised

TSH has recently gotten into contact with me. Apparently, we had a miscommunication and my previous attempts at contact went into their spam filters. I apologize for the confusion and should not have drawn such harsh conclusions. The management has agreed to resolve the issue promptly.

Tradeshow hostesses continues to not respond to emails and other forms of communication. I sent an invoice outlining the payment due and how past due it was.

It's upsetting to see that just 3 days ago, yet another model was scammed in Florida.

Models only received HALF of payment

Yesterday, I received a message from Allen/Roger saying "(insert my name) enough of your nonsense. You will likely receive a check today." Enough of my nonsense? Roger/Allen/whoever is behind this hasn't responded to several polite requests asking when payment could be expected for well over 2 months. Given the circumstances and track record of the agency, I think that most people would begin to be more persistent in receiving payment for a job they completed. This show was a four day commitment, some days lasting over 9 hours!

While my partner and I DID receive a check today, it was only for HALF of the money we were contracted for. This seems to be a pattern with Allen's/Roger's business practices (see Chicago Tribune article above). Also interesting was that I was contracted for Tradeshow Hostesses, yet the check was from Indy Models which has several ripoff complains. The check is signed Roger A. Knauer. I have followed up with an email asking where the other half of payment is and requested that my colleague do the same.
