I work for Travelers Advantage in the membership department. My job, along with about 200 others, is to talk "members" out of cancelling the service. When someone is signed up for the TA service through any method, a membership kit is sent out to them. I have seen these kits myself. They come in a plain white envelope, and look like your basic junkmail- the stuff that you throw away without even opening. I believe that this is done intentionally, since all memberships automatically renew each year without sending out ANY information. Traveler's Advantage has over 2.5 million members, and I personally believe that most of them have no idea that they even have a membership. The company relies upon the many people that never notice the annual renewal fees on thier credit card statements, and therefore never cancel the service and are billed year after year without recieving anything from the company. And even if you do get the materials for the service, you will soon see that all of the "benefits" have so many restrictions that they are basically useless. You'll find better rates almost anywhere else. Basically Travelers Advantage relies on tricky marketing ploys to get people to unknowingly enroll in a service that offers them nothing, and automatically bills them every year. Yes, I work for this company and have for almost a year. And if it makes any of you feel any better- the employees are treated worse than the customers. The turnover rate is tremendous. It has been estimated that every year 100% of the employees hired into my department will quit, as well as an additional 20% on top of that. The only reason I am still there is that there is little else available in my area that pays much. Anyways, Bottom Line: Travelers Advantage will not save you a dime, and will bring you far more problems than Advantages.
