Additional insurance taken out on rental car is a waste. Travelocity pushes you to by the additional car insurance through them so if ANYTHING happens to a car rental they will cover ALL cost and you'll never hear from the car rental company because Travelocity will take care of it for you. NOT!!

Drove rental to hotel, parked it and didn't use it again until I drove car back to airport next morning. Returned car, gave keys to the outside attendant and went in to check out. 10 minutes later car rep came outside to tell me there's a scratch on the front finder. Scatch turned out to be a 3" superficial scatch and could be easly buffed out. I asked attendant can't that be buffed out and how do you know that scratch was there when I picked the car up. Rep agreed, and said "oh, I see you purchased the insurance, we'll take care of it". I took a picture of the "damage" and was on my way. One month later I received a letter in the mail from Travelocity stating my insurance agreement was with the car rental company, not Travelocity. I called Travelocity, explained I puchased the car insurance via their website and charged the RT flight, hotel, rent car and insurance through them. I printed out my confirmation when I booked the flight and even had the credit card receipt where all money went to Travelocity. Travelocity stated they were only acting as a broker for the car rental company. This went on for six months. There's no telling how many people drove the car in six months from the time I returned the car. In the end I had to pay $500 to the car rental company to have the scratch buffed out. Had I not the car rental company stated they would contact my car insurance company and place a claim. $500 out of pocket or a $500 claim on my insurance than would drive my cost up. You do the math!

Travelocity does not sell car insurance

Travelocity does not sell car rental accident insurance. You may have bought a trip protection plan that covers you in case you get sick or injured and can't go, but it doesn't include scratches the car rental agency finds when you return the car. You can buy that kind of insurance at the car rental counter. On all car reservations Travelocity tells you: "Charges for optional services, fuel, insurance waivers, etc. are not included." You could have purchased a "Loss Damage Waiver" from the rental agency, or your credit card could also have rental car damage coverage as well. Check with your credit card bank.
