TRS Limited-Oro Lift Bait and switch. Internet offer of $5 turned into $179. San Francisco California
On 7/10/2015 I checked a box on a now-forgotten website offering some moisturizer for $5.00. I received the moisturizer, and then noticed an unfamiliar charge on my credit card statement. I can’t recall exactly, but I think it was for $39.00.
I called the credit card company and was informed that somehow I had signed up for a subscription to this moisturizer. They cancelled the $39.00 charge as unauthorized.
I forgot about this episode until I received a notice from a collection agency dated 2/8/17 notifying me that I owed $179.97. I didn’t recognize the name of the creditor – TRS Limited-Oro Lift. I called the collection agency (Tate & Kirland) and found out it was the name of the company I was duped by a year and a half ago.
Since 7/10/15, I have never received a bill or notice from this company requesting payment. Nor, have any charges shown up on any credit cards, bank accounts or PayPal in that time. In fact, going through past statements, I cannot find any record of the original charges - $5.00 and $39.00 (again, I’m not sure of this amount).
Just as an added “bonus” to this scam, the $179.97 TRS Limited-Oro Lift are collecting includes a $40 “charge back” fee for the original unauthorized charge that I cancelled.
Upon hearing how all this transpired, even the collection agency waived that charge, making the debt $139.97.
I have paid the collection agency because it is very important to me to maintain my good credit rating. But I believe this charge was unwarranted and possibly illegal, considering I never received any notifications indicating that I owed money to 97 TRS Limited-Oro Lift. Please investigate!
