Number one, the term "authorized user" is just that. You are authorized to purchase on the account, but you are NOT liable for payment. There are 3 kinds of users on an account. 1) Primary user. this is the person who will be reponsible for payment. 2) Joint or co-user. this person would also be liable to pay if primary did not. 3) authorized user. is not liable for any payment whatsoever. an authorized user is a person who the primary had agreed to let use the account with full knowledge that the primary will be repsonsible to pay the debt,. NOW, UCB collectors use any and all ways to get paymet, it does not matter to them who it is. they skip trace to find anyone they can who is related to the person who actually owed the debt. if they cant get them to pay, they will try anyone else. they threaten , lie, tell you they can take your personal property. they will tell you that they are attorneys who are suing you. (I have that on tape from a ucb collector. I also have tapes of supervisors who told me that the collector had every right to say what he did. ) I know for a fact, from REAL attorneys, that UCB violates just about every FDCPA law in existence. They also know that it is very hard to get federal to sue on behalf on only one person. federal only sues companys on behalf of hundreds of people for one suit. So UCB continues to break the law. But with thier client base becoming more and more knowlegable to the many violations, they are taking thier business away from UCB. Hopefully, that will be what it takes to close ucb down . one can only hope....................
