A man with a forein accent called my home and told me that my husband had taken out a payday loan and had it deposited in my bank account two years ago and that my bank account had been closed down and they could not get their money. He told me that I had to pay 100.00 that day and a Total Of 1300 dollars to clear up this matter or we would be responsible for 7000 dollars. My bank account was never closed down. They only provided me with a phone number and an address to send then a payment through Western Union which is NwV CA, 793 Thes people are raellty scaring me and I really dont know what to do about this problem. They Have all of our personal information including our bank account number. I think they need to be stopped!

www.ftc.gov - look under Fair Debt Collections Practices Act There have been several postings about some guy with a heavy accent trying to collect on bogus accounts. They are required by Federal Law to validate the debt and CANNOT just demand you pay without providing it. They will attempt to scare you into sending them money by using threats such as this as well as arrest etc. Threats of this kind are illegal and they hope you do not know your rights. EDUCATE YOURSELF - and do not send them any money. Once they realize you know you have rights - they usually back down quickly.

Contact your bank immediately and tell them about the call. You do not want any money disappearing from your account. Do NOT give the caller any personal information at all. Do you owe the money? If you do then you should call the loan company to work out the details.

Do not talk to them - let voice mail pick it up then record the calls Keep a list of all the times they call - if possible, take picture of your caller id These people have been profiled on ABC News Don't worry - they cannot have you arrested or prosecuted unless you wrote a NSF check
