Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I found the United Patent Resource Company online when I was looking to patent an idea I had. All the search results had glowing things to say about the company (I found out later they pay for that) I contacted the company and they were very convincing that they could do a lot for me and really get my idea out there. I was contacted by a woman that called herself (Michelle Jones, I do not believe that is her real name) she told me I would be contacted by a project manager named George Chandler that would help me with my idea if they believed it can be done.

Well I was contacted by a man that called himself George Chandler (I also believe this is a bogus name) and he told me the idea was so unique and asked me to send him some sketches of my idea and not to discuss it with anyone. He had me almost convinced that I would make so much money I would never have to worry about anything ever again. He then told me that I would just need to send them money for the patent fees and then the rest they would handle and I would be rich. He told me that there was nothing else out there like my idea. He wanted me to send him $795.00 by check or credit card and mail or fax it over to him. I was told that I would not have to pay anything else but the patent fees and they would not charge anything unless I made money. He told me it was a 20% fee. However there was no contract.

I went to the United States Patent Web site and discovered there was absolutely NOTHING that cost $795.00 Nothing even added up to $795 for a patent. It would be MUCH MUCH more. I started to get the feeling that it was "too good to be true". I paid a company to do a patent search and discovered that the product had already been invented.

You also have to be aware that you have to be registered with the United States Patent office to file a patent on someone's behalf. They are not registered or is the name of the lawyer they provided even listed.

They also claim that the RIP OFF REPORT posts are made by one person overseas that is basically extorting them to have the posts removed. This is also not true. I had a friend call with an idea and they also told my friend that their idea was so unique and that they wanted to patent their idea. (The idea was already a product on the market!)

Please DO NOT send them ANY MONEY. It is a SCAM. You cannot get anything from the United States Patent Office for $795.

If you want a patent for an item contact a registered Patent attorney or agent. There are TONS listed on the United States Patent Web Site that are registered and legitimate.

I believe that there are several people involved in this scam working in various locations. They work out of private homes and normally block their number when they call. If you call them and tell them you have invented a toothbrush they will claim it has not been invented yet and for $795 they can get you a patent.

Again do NOT send them any money. Its a total Scam!

A Few Things You Should Know about Getting a Patent through UPR

Truly it is unfortunate the misunderstandings people have about patenting an invention. I am always amazed at how quick people are to judge something as a scam before they have checked the facts. At no time have we ever paid someone to give us glowing reviews. This statement is blatantly false. Firstly, UPR does business solely through contracts. The discussions we have explaining the process are followed up with a written contractual agreement with each and every client. Secondly, we contract for a wide range of patenting services, such as patent searches, legal opinions, professional artwork, and patent filing and prosecution. Our fees cover the fees of the patent attorneys, researchers, draftsmen, and US or foreign patent office fees, not just what the USPTO charges. You will not find $795 in the USPTO website charts because it is not there. Apparently someone misunderstood that by you paying your patenting/legal fees, we were not going to charge anything to do the work for you. Thirdly, and I have to explain this one so many times, just because there is another patent that turns up in a patent search that is similar to yours, does NOT mean that you cannot get a patent on it. So many, many people have the misconception that having a patent means that there is nothing else like theirs in all of existence! Quite the opposite, in fact. Having a patent means that you or whomever you sell or license your patent to, have the legal right to do commerce with that idea. Having a strong patent means that your competition is less likely to put out a product that is just like yours; the better your patent, the more protection you have. For example, there are over 400 patents on variations of the Frisbee. When you buy a crescent wrench, how many different ones are there to choose from? And how many new twists on the toothbrush have you seen in your life? These all have their own patents. Finding the legal significant difference between products is the purpose of a patent search, not to prove that it's never been done, ever. Improvements on existing ideas make up the bulk of new inventions. Lastly, we use registered patent attorneys to perform all legal work regarding patent searching, filing, and prosecution. Our clients receive this information in writing along with correspondence directly from the registered patent attorneys. If you look up the name of the Licensing Attorney we use, Michael Freedman, you will not find him registered to practice patent law because he IS NOT a patent attorney, he's a licensing attorney. Big difference. These are two different areas of law. Michael Freedman is not filing the patents for our clients. Actually, he will only work with ideas for which a patent or patent pending status has already been obtained. And for a detailed listing of how our clients are doing you can check out our blog through the link on our homepage. In addition, please take note of the statement issued by the President of our company: As President and Owner of United Patent it is extremely important to me that UPR is completely committed to providing our clients with excellent services. To that end, UPR is listed with the appropriate agencies, such as the Better Business Bureau and Dun & Bradstreet, and we intend to continue to adhere to upstanding business practices and provide our clients with the highest degree of professionalism to meet their needs. Please call me directly at 301-570-6875 with any concerns. For those clients who let us know about their concerns, I personally attend to their questions, concerns and needs, and to date, to my knowledge, all of these UPR clients are satisfied. I welcome any feedback. If you are experiencing any problems with our services I want to know. I am adamant about maintaining a record of client satisfaction. I take a very hands-on and personal approach to this business and require that my staff do the same. UPR will always strive to provide you with outstanding services and is totally committed to 100% customer satisfaction. Respectfully submitted, Amanda Hunt 888-997-7113 x709
