University Of Phoenix/Axia College lied about requirements, forcing hardworking students to dropout then charging excessive fees for useless classes Phoenix Arizona
I had enrolled in the u of Phoenix and at the time I had told the enrollment councellor that I have no prior computer skills or knowledge. I was told that this was ok because this is what I would be learning.
After taking the first block of two classes(which were useless remedial classes), I started my core classes. After only 4 weeks in my core classes I discover that the school expected me to already know and have downloaded software applications such as powerpoint, which I had neither.
At this point I contacted the schools acedemic concellor only to hear.. Oh, you were told that you are required to have certain software and knowledge prior to enrollment. This is a blatent lie as I was NOT informed of this.
Now I was forced to drop out after only taking and completing two useless classes and now they are holding me responsible for the student loans that I had to take in order to go to school.
Had I been given the correct information in the beginning I certainly would not have enrolled until I was equipted to take these classes nor would I have taken expensive student loans out for them. I feel that since they were the ones who mislead me I should not have to pay for the classes, especially due to the fact that they didn't teach me anything of value to any career.
I had spoken to other students that were taking the same classes as me and found that they feel they had been mislead as well and some are also going to dropout. I have also recently researched any other complaints about this peticular school only to dicover countless examples of people that have had the SAME EXACT problem that I have faced with the University of Phoenix.
What kind of UNIVERSITY would puposely mislead people into spending their hard earned money to try and better themselves, just to rip them off after only a couple of classses.
In short this experience has left a bad taste in my mouth towards higher education and quite seriuosly has ruined the possiblity that I will ever trust another college or University in order to get a degree.
These schools need to be stopped before they can rob any more innocent people out of their money and hopes for a better life.

Good question, one many here would like an answer too. Fully informed consumers are happy, and continue to patronize businesses, it's intuitive. Those who are misled get angry and come to sites like the ripoffreport. One assumes corporate leaders are among the best at what they do, so why would these self made men and women conduct business in a way that infuriates consumers? Or which continues to produce a steady stream of bad publicity and legal action? (Links available at UOPsucks.com) My guess is the balance between short and long term gain is one sided. After all, the Times front page story "Troubles Grow for a University Built on Profits" states university recruiting "systematically operates in a duplicitous manner." That can't be good for business....

Contact your student loan lending institution immediately and let them know you have withdrawn from the school. In many cases you will owe very little. I also had a bad experience with U Phoenix in the MBA program and transferred to American Intercontininetal Univ to finish my masters degree. Always let the lender know what is going on. They have to stop the payments they are sending to U Phoenix and stop your obligation on the loan.
