The University of Phoenix is using deceptive marketing/enrollment practices. U of P has an outstanding reputation for excellence in adult learning. However, their affiliate/partner Axia College, is a joke! Axia enrollment counselors are like minimum wage telemarketers. When you call for information and go through enrolling, they barely understand the procedures. They cannot and will not answer any questions about the entire degree programs. They don't know what happens after you obtain an associates level degree. A student is FORCED to use Axia in order to pass through the first two years worth of general education required for any four year degree. This is deceptive. You think you are working with U of P but they sluff you onto Axia for a few years. Only online classes are available, and they are a joke! The textbooks used are so random. Some are easy to use, helpful, and self-explanatory. Others are ridiculously hard to read/understand. You are told when you enroll that you can work at your own pace, even weeks ahead. This is not true because every other week you are required to post comments replying to other students. That has to be done during the specific week, not weeks earlier as implied. The instructors are all but non-existent! They are idiots! They add NO value. I have corrected several of mine. I did not quit because this school was hard. In 3 weeks I will finish my 9th and final class in order to receive my AA in Business (had some prior college courses that transferred in). I would not recommend this BOZO college (Axia) to anyone, and would steer people away from getting ripped off. I have had three academic counselors in the past 12 months. None had a clue. None could give me ANY information about how much/what courses would be required for me to continue on after the AA in order to earn my bachelors. Finally, after threatening to withdraw from school, I was transferred to a very knowledgeable, professional counselor who worked for U of P who was able to answer all my questions. Was that so hard? I have had 4 financial counselors in the past 12 months. Once I received a $930 check in the mail and had no idea why. For some reason the school cashed my loan check and paid me, but then I was responsible for making the payment back to the school for classes. I was given a last minute email notice (no letter or phone call) with the threat that if I didn't pay by Monday (on Friday) that my next courses would be cancelled. I don't believe that any of the 8 "counselors" assigned to me are college grads themselves. Two admitted that they are currently taking online classes themselves. They were all idiots so I stopped communicating with them. If you are interested in earning your degree and are already a junior level student or above, seek U of P - it's still a great school and I have many friends/relatives who have attended. If you are just a hs grad or have some college but no AA, don't bother. You will be sluffed off to Axia College and that place is a joke!!! P.S. They also added one class at the END of my courses 1/2 way through the program saying that I needed more math to graduate - why didn't they tell me this upfront? Another $1,000. Also, they rose prices of all classes by 20% 6 weeks after I started the program. And, you have to download and print ALL your course materials - get ready to invest a LOT in toners and paper!!!

Do your homework

I am a Financial Services Manager and I have been with the company for over 3 years. I started as a finance counselor with UOP and I always did my best to keep students informed and able to obtain their degrees. I have been a manager for almost 2 years and I know work with Axia students. The other rebuttal is true, that the option should have been given to you and I am sorry that there was no choice. The main thing I see about people starting school is that they do not do any homework before hand, like this case. If you are worried about the price, find out before you sign up. Demand to speak to someone in finance or academics (yes, academics still does require a degree). It is your education and I see too man people just going with it and not making an ultimate decision on their own, because they choose not to. Don't blame anyone else because you did not read the student guide (which explains EVERYTHING) and feel misled. Again, I feel sorry for you and your situation, but make sure everything is read before signing up and don't let anyone ever rush you, no matter what you are doing.

You Should Have Been Given A Choice

I am an Enrollment Counselor with the University of Phoenix (Not Axia), and I can tell you that you should have been given a choice. Students who are to be enrolled in Axia are students bringing in less than 24 credits. Between 24 and about 40 credits, we give students the choice (we're supposed to...I do) of Axia or UOP and there is even a document that needs to be signed by the student stating that they are willing to pass on the cheaper tuition with Axia and go for their Bachelor's with UOP. I am very sorry to hear you were put in this situation. Your counselor should have been better informed and I apologize on their behalf. Most UOP and Axia employees are currently working on their degrees, however, Academic Counselor's, last I checked, were required to have a Bachelor's for employement. However, Enrollment and Finance is not required (but finance has strict work-experience requirements). Again, I apologize for your experience. I do recommend that if you know anyone transferring in less than 40 credits who wants to go to UOP, advise them not to let the EC direct them to Axia, but tell them they are willing to pay more with UOP, if in fact, they are willing to do so.
