I fell for the buy now scam of Uniway or else be banished. I was stupid, new to the area, and had a fist full of dreams and dollars. I recently bought a new home and needed to purchase a Refridgerator. Great, i thought, let me try out this handy-dandy UniWay membership. So i priced out serveral refridgerators from the usual places and i was off to Uniway. My god, i can save $500 on the fridge by buying directly from Uniway. Here is my check, when can i pick up my Fridge, i asked. No problem sir, you will have your fridge in 3-5 weeks, (but should be sooner, wink, wink - from the seller) Great, called the wife, she got excited. It was a great day. Other than having to navigate the catelog room by myself (no one to assist) Must have been lunch hour. Either way, i was happy. Fast Foward 7 WEEKS!!! I have now spent $100 of the $500 savings renting a fridge from Rent-A-Center. I have been calling Uniway every other day for the past 3 1/2 weeks never to get a straight answer. Today i was told that they were closed until the new year! When I asked who the head person of UniWay Greenville was I was told Carmen Mitzcoff (Not sure about the name or spelling) and that I could not speak with her until after the new year. But someone would call me tomorrow with a status of my purchase. I am not going to hold my breath, that is the exact statement that has made me call there every OTHER day for almost 4 weeks. I keep giving the benefit of the doubt, watching them fall over themselves each time. At this point, keep the fridge, give me the purchase money back as well as all membership costs and go turn someone else into a sucker.

Order finally came in.. Savings not worth the headache!

I finally picked up my order along with a LONG line of others. I am not sure what is going on with this company but it seems to be shady to say the least. When we pulled up there was a handwritten sign in the window saying UNIWAY. I had gotten word that the shipment would be in on Tuesday with 125 peices of Ashley furniture and would need to be sorted so call back on Wednesday. When I called on Tuesday, I was told that there was a delay in shipment and there was no ETA, after feeling like they were continuing to give me the run around, I called the headquarters in Atlanta again and the representative assured me my order was in transit. She was very helpful and professional and always returned phone calls. She did make me aware that the orders were never placed, but she worked hard to rectifiy the situation and stated the Ashley representative would expedite the order. They evidently did because I got my stuff. The money saved was not worth the headache of wondering if I would ever get anything for my money that was already spent. This company gave me a feeling of helplessness as a consumer and I would not use them for anything EVER again.

74 days and counting

1/23/07 It has been 74 days since I place my order with Uniway. They had been closed down for a week as they moved into their new offices. So I went there today to see if I could possible meet with either Karen or Gary Mitskoff. No Sale. Thats right, on opening day of their new location; they are nowhere to be found. The new place? A much smaller space that should not have been opened to the public today. If I was the owner I would not have let any customers in today to see that the place was a mess. I am sure it is just the employees still trying to unpack, but still. I expected nothing less from the owners of this establishment being that my money was taken and my order was never placed! That's right, I was put in touch with another Uniway location where the woman (Kathy - I have all great things to say about her, she is polite, professional, and truly seems to care) told me that my order was never made. Well, that turns this into Robbery now. My money was taken and nothing was ordered! I have asked that my order be cancelled and all money paid to Uniway for the purchase as well as any membership dues be returned to me at once.

#4Consumer Suggestion

Tue, January 15, 2008

I am going through the same thing with the company and was wondering if th ex-employee can tell us how we can determine if our orders have ever been placed. My invoice was completed on 11/27/07 and I would feel better if I was able to contact the shipper or distributor to check a status of my order. I ordered only ASHLEY furniture but I am aware that they have multiple distributors. How can we consumers know where Uniway of Greenville get their distributions? It would be helpful to find out that information from the distributors so that we can know to pursue getting our money back from Uniway. If anyone has any suggestions, please help!!!

I tried to stop by the location today 1-10-08. There is a sign on the door that states that they will be closed for about a week as they move to there new location down the road. There was no one at either location. I have contacted my attorney and will continue to post updates.

The owners (Gary & Karen Mitzcoff) of this store also owned 2 others that I believe are now closed. I think They are out of money and have fired most of the staff. I think They use the money members paid for ordered items, to pay their payroll. This is paid late if you still work there and not at all if you quit or were fired. Even when they give you a payroll check it will most likely bounce, I think most of the banks in the area have stopped accepting their checks. If that tells you anything about how bad it is there. That is why I believe you will not get your items for a long long time, if at all. You are in a long, long line for your items to be purchased. I heard Many of the companies they buy from have dumped them because of their practices. The fired employees were told that this location is closing and would only be open temporarily for members to purchase items. are They still selling memberships, while planning on closing. The only way you will see the owners is to call and pretend they called you to schedule an appointment for a tour, as the owner is the only one giving tours now (because he got rid of all the sales people that he could not and did not pay). They will set an appointment for you to see a tour and then when you get there wait for Gary to come out before you say anything. you can then talk to the owner, Gary. You may also be able to save some other poor person from giving them their hard earned money.

Here we are on Friday 1/4/08 and still no call back. I called back in and apparently the entire customer service department has called out sick. This does not bother me as I know the only person that can help me is Karen Mitzcoff (Not sure of Spelling) as she is the stores Director. Well...She is out sick today, again. He boss? That would be the stores owner (Gary Mitzcoff) but he is not there either. I did ask that the receptionist contact one of them at home as this is going on 10 weeks without even a return phone call. I do not expect to receive a call anytime soon, but intend on going there tomorrow in an effort to get an answer. Two weeks until my first child is born and no refrigerator in sight. I cannot even afford to go buy one, because like everyone else, I paid for my refrigerator upfront with Uniway.

I have continued to place calls to Uniway of Greenville, and still no information about my order. This is getting ridiculous. Donny, Customer Service Agent, (Very nice person) stated I needed to speak with Karen but she has not been in for two days. I asked for her boss and apparently she is the Director of Uniway. The Buck stops with her, if you can find her. Will try again tomorrow.
