I received charges on my phone bill for services that I did not purchase from a company calling themselves USBI. In contacting the company to dispute the charges, they had cited that their service was ordered via the internet by my husband. They gave me my husband's name and e-mail address.

I knew that this was impossible because my husband has a "pre-paid" cellphone and we have an "all distance" plan through our local telephone company; we had no need for a "Mainstreet platinum long distance calling card".

Neither my husband or myself have ever received this "calling card" or would even purchase such a service we don't need. I believe that USBI used the internet to obtain personal information on my husband illegally and slammed our phone bill with this erroneous charge. What upset me the most is that our phone bill account is in my name, not my husband's. An honest company would have sent a "follow up" letter to the address listed for the "account holder" to confirm that they had actually ordered this service since the name of the "purchaser" was different.......but they did not.

The USBI customer service representative has agreed to credit the erroneous charges from my telephone bill, however, I wasn't taking any chances. I also contacted my local phone bill provider to report this fraudulent activity, and I have filed a report with the Michigan Public Service Commission. I have also researched this company with the Better Business Bureau and found that they have an "unsatisfactory" rating with the Bureau.
