I contacted Evan Tublitz from the Used Piano Center through the Piano Technicians Guild website, he is a Registered Piano Technician and his information was listed. I called him to inquire on a piano that I was interested in purchasing, a Steinway Model M Grand Piano. Evan Tublitz from the Used Piano Center told me that the piano I was purchasing although it was rebuilt by a reputable piano company said that the piano would fall apart in a matter of months. He tried to convince me that the Steinway Model M piano he had was the best Model M Steinway Grand Piano in the country. I went to look at the piano and the piano was a pile of junk. He said the action had been rebuilt and that was a lie, it was refurbished not rebuilt, he said it had new parts and the old original parts had been painted to look new. The piano had buzzing strings and was in poor condition, he tried to tell me that the piano was in pristine working order and that it would be even better in my home. After looking at the pianos he had in his store, I noticed that none of them was rebuilt like he said they was and the other thing I noticed was a letter on his desk from a complaint he received from another client. The letter said that he received payment for a Steinway Piano that he did not deliver and it has been over six months and he has not returned any phone calls to the customer about it. I called other piano stores in the area and they said that this guy sells junk and talks a good talk but only delivers crap pianos to his clients. Evan Tublitz RPT bragged how he worked for Steinway & Sons and when I called Steinway to verify this they told me he was a liar and has been saying that for years. He worked at Steinway for a couple of days and was fired. Evan Tublitz told me that he worked for Ibach piano company and he lied about that too. Half of the website he has is a lie and you should not trust this company. Evan tried to talk to me about other piano companies locally that have a poor reputation but it is certain that his is much worse and if you think about falling for his line of superior craftsmanship, think again. Buying a piano that has been cleaned up will not play like one that has been rebuilt and he is the biggest liar I have ever met. I contacted Steve Greenstein the president of the piano technicians guild in that area about what happened to me and he told me to buy a piano from him because he was an RPT. These two must be in cahoots with each other and they must exchange money for referrals.

Jean-Marc Lopez of Orange Fl False Accusation

#3REBUTTAL Owner of company

Wed, May 19, 2010

Jean-Marc Lopez in this report falsely accused our company of things that are simply untrue.

Further investigation reveals he also did that with another local company in the area but 'mysteriously' retracted his accusation and yet he has not retracted his accusation here.

Steve Greenstein, RPT, President of the Hudson-Adirondack chapter of the Piano Technicians Guild stated that he did an internet search for Jean-Marc Lopez of Orange, FL and found no such person.  He further goes on to say that he suspects that this false report was generated by a disgruntled competitor due to 'jealousy' or need to detract from our reputation.

It is curious to note that, unbidden, "Mr. Lopez" takes the time to apologize to that retailer.  Further investigation into the numerous reports against that retailer seems to reveal, more than one complaint of malfeasance and again, mysteriously, it is reported that problems are 'resolved'.

It seems convenient that some people know how to use a website like this to conduct their business instead of operate with integrity as many of us have for very many years.

My name is Steven E. Greenstein and I am a Registered Piano Technician member of the Piano Technicans Guild. I am also President of the Hudson-Adirondack Chapter and am a colleague of Mr. Tublitz, the target of this fallacious report; who is also a fellow RPT in our Guild. Firstly, I have the highest regard for Mr. Tublitz as he is a wealth of information about not only American pianos but European pianos as well. He has traveled Europe visiting many Factories and was the personal guest of some very prestigious Piano Manufactories. He truly is what after 35 years in the Trade I have come to understand the expression or term "Piano Man". My good name was mentioned in this report for reasons unknown to me.The last time I had contact with Mr. Tublitz was over 7 years ago when I invited him to do a technical presentation on the fine art of "Piano Hammer Voicing". He donated his time and skills for no fee purely out of good will & sharing knowledge (centuries ago considered coveted & secretive info) and the meeting was well attended and appreciated greatly by all attendees. Furhermore, I went through every e-mail saved in my business filing cabinet and there was nothing from any Jean Marc Lopez. I furthermore before filing this rebuttal did numerous searches for a Jean Marc Lopez in Orange Florida & there was not a single match. I suspect this report by Mr. Lopez is a report filed by someone who indeed is not a Jean Marc Lopez but someone else fueled perhaps by vindictive reasons (who can know, perhaps jealousy, a personality conflict or any evil motivation) to slander Mr. Tublitz. I hope someday there will be a way to police the internet and prosecute people for false allegations and slander. Anyone who would like to discuss this matter with me further can reach me via the PTG.Org website. Sincerely, Steven E. Greenstein RPT Pres. Mr. Jean Marc Lopez of Orange, Florida never was in Used Piano Center or was in contact with the store

I am Evan Tublitz, RPT owner of Used Piano Center and can assuredly state that Mr. Lopez was NEVER in the store at any time and we never spoke to ANYONE by that name. It is unfortunate that such falsehoods and lies could be propagated on the internet without any documentation of any kind. I do recall a phone call regarding a man, claiming to be from Texas, who wanted to have a piano rebuilt by a competitor who, was unable to deal with the action, and wanted me to rebuild the action while the other firm did the rest of the piano. When I refused, this man became very angry, abusive and quite rude and used foul language. I could easily suspect that this report could have been generated by him or the firm that wanted to rebuild the piano since I would not comply. Furthermore, when one makes such a silly statement as to say that action parts were 'painted' to look like new, it proves the falsehood of such a report. I am unaware of any way to PAINT an action part to look like new as all action parts, whether hardrock maple, birch, beech or hornbeam, are natural wood without any finish of any kind. How one would PAINT to look new is beyond me. When people make false claims in print, it is quite difficult to verify the veracity of the claimant as statements referring to a letter about a customer who sent payment for a Steinway Piano and never received the piano. However, in this case, it is quite clear that the rebuilder referred to above, did in fact have numerous such complaints against him as I personally have taken many phone calls from disgruntled clients stating just that fact. So my conclusion, unfortunately, is that this is a very sad example of false character assassination designed to malign a business that has always prided itself in conducting business with the highest of integrity over 34 years. Sadly, when certain people and businesses cannot compete on the basis of quality, professionalism and integrity, they resort to hateful tactics such as this. I will not lower myself to continue to dignify this fatuous and false statement any further. Please feel free to contact me at Used Piano Center at 518-664-4367 to discuss any matter of concern at any time. My reputation of 34 years has remained spotless and on my website we have many customers who can be contacted. Anyone who would like references would be most welcome to call me at 518-664-4367.
