This is not a huge deal, but since it happened to me twice today, I feel the dealer should have SOME consequence for wasting my time.

I spoke with Jacob the sales manager at Valencia Nissan Superstore. He confirmed a newspaper ad mentioning a discount from MSRP of all 2004 Titans. We discussed my needs and he "found" one in stock, gave me the details, and per my request an exact "out the door" quote. I am pre-qualified and ready to buy--I just wanted to inspect the vehicle and go. We discussed that I would drive out right away, ready to buy.

I drove 30 miles to the dealership, where Jacob asked a salesguy to show me the truck. We walked out to the lot and only found 2005 models. We walked ALL around the lot for quite some time. Salesguy went back to Jacob for quite a while, leaving me to look at cars. Salesguy came out and told me that Jacob had made a mistake, the truck was really an '05, which was "better" for me since it would be a newer year, he claimed, as he tried to get me to go see/try it. I explained that I was bummed because the rebate only applies to '04s so I doubted they could give me the same price. He thought so, and was surprised I wanted to speak with Jacob about it first before spending time with the truck.

Jacob crunched the numbers and eventually came up with a figure about 1700 more than the previous quote. He said he was sorry he made an "honest mistake" and was bending over backwards to make up for it. I explained that I didn't want a handout--just the deal we had discussed. He tried to figure out a way to beat my credit union financing to make up the difference (or to get me tired?), then explained how 1700 is really "not that much different" in the monthly payments.

All of this would have been no big deal if it didn't happen to me and my family earlier in the day (which helped me see through it and save a few hours). See report on Simi Valley Nissan.

Like I said, honest except everything they say, and everything they do!

First step is to get you onto the dealer lot. After all, how can they steal your money over the phone? Here's how to do that. Hello, Valencia Nissan. Yes, we have that one in stock. And, it's on sale for $5,000 less. Come on down! No problem, we got a red '04, and it's on sale, for $5,000 less. When can you get here? We just got one of those in. And the manager put it on sale, for $5,000 less. How soon can you be here? I got just one left. And, it's on sale, for $5,000 less. I can hold it 30 minutes until you get here. What's that? You want to buy an elephant to go with your Titan? No problem, I just got one in, a pink one, and it's on sale, for $5,000 less. What's that? You need a trailer to haul the elephant in? Sure, we have one, a red one to match the Nissan. It's on sale, for $5,000 less. How long will it take you to get here? Dude, are you getting the picture here? Anything it takes to get you onto the lot! The answer will always be yes, they have it, and it's $5,000 less.
