I went into the Value City Furniture store in Akron Ohio on Sept 14 and purchased 1500.00 of furniture: 1 living room chair, 1 ottoman, 2 dining room chairs and 1 kitchen dinette with 4 chairs. We were informed that our delivery would be coming out of the Mansfield store and that they only deliver to my area on Tuesdays. This was a bit of an inconvenience but we made the arrangements to be home the following Tuesday.

We found out the following Monday that they had incorrectly recorded our credit card number and as a result they were unable to deliver our furniture as scheduled. When asked when the delivery was going to be made, no answer was given. We contacted the Mansfield store to reschedule the delivery and we were told our furniture was never ordered. They said we had to call back to re-order everything. We told since they had the information from my original order to go ahead and re-order everything and give us a delivery date. They said that was not possible we had to speak to the manager. We called the manager Mitch, explained the situation. He was not very concerned about our inconvenience. We asked for free delivery to make up for it. He said he could not authorize it. We spoke to him one other time and with no help from him we then turned to his superior. After several phone messages were left with no return call, we were finally able to speak to him. He also was unwilling to approve the free delivery as compensation for their error.

A week later on October 19, we drove the 45 mintures to the Mansfield store with one final appeal and spoke to the assistant manager Damian. He informed me that our furniture has been sitting there the whole time. I said great, please delivery it and waive the delivery fee. He was unable to do so as they had given my dinette set to another customer. The next expected delivery for that dinette was November 25th. I had already waited 5 weeks for a kitchen table and was not interested in waiting another 5 weeks. I asked if I agreed to take the furniture he had in stock and  wait for the dinette delivery could I have 2 additional chairs at no cost for my trouble and was told that was not possible. At that point I told him to cancel the entire order, I was not interested in doing any kind of business with Value City Furniture. At no time did anyone appear to be sorry or troubled by the situation.

I ended up going back last night and getting the ottoman and 2 dining room chairs as they were matching pieces to furniture I already had in my home.  When I unwrapped the ottoman, one of the legs was broken along with the frame. For some reason they are now able to come to my home the following Wednesday and bring me a replacement ottoman at no cost, but still no apology or delivery of the dinette.

What I heard in your complaint: The dealer made an error, we call it dropping the ball. A second error as they didnt have a system to fix the first. OOPS. The you called and were nasty and demanding, and when that happens at our store we instantly have no interest in going above and beyond. So it gets worked out, not to your satisfaction, but worked out just the same. Then OOps they sold you a broken item, new problem, you were probably calm when you called and they had an opertunity to show you they would service reasonable customers. So wow all of a sudden they were nice to you because you were nice to them and you file a report like this. WOW its going to be interesting to see how long the owner or manager can hold a grudge.
