There is something seriously wrong with Verizon's data calculation system. I do not know how they are doing what they are doing but I do know that I am a victim of some type of data overage scheme. I have been a customer of Verizon for over 15 yrs and here lately I have been getting hit with data overages. On my current plan I have 16 gigs and I have 4 devices that shares data with this plan. My phone is what I use the most and I only use about 5 gigs a month, while my husband barely use 1 gig a month, and my son data is limited to 4 gig a month because I also have the family safeguard that allows me to set limits to my devices. My home Internet device is only used when I need to do my college school work, pay bills and sometimes I use my Google Chrome Castle to cast a movie from my phone. I hardly ever use 3 gigs whenever I use my home Internet device. Well on yesterday prior to me using my Chrome Cast my data plan had used up to 7 gigs of data since it had reset on the 22nd and this is about the normal usage rate for my devices. Well as I was casting a movie with my Chrome Cast I receive a text saying that I have used 90% of my data.

I' m like seriously, I've only been watching this movie for about 40 minutes and you mean to tell me that I have used 4.5 gigs in this short period of time. I immediately stopped casting my movie and I went online to check my Verizon account. At this time I pulled the details of every device data usage and sure enough when I checked the usage for my home Internet I had 2 entries for 8-6-2016 that were 42 minutes apart that totaled my data usage at 4.5 gigs being used within 42 mins. I know that this can't be possible because the only device that was connected to the home Internet was my phone and the Chrome Cast device because I have it set up to where my son phone, tablets, and Playstation/Xbox system device numbers are all blocked and cannot ever connect to the home Internet device without knowing the password to unblock them even if they know the password to the home device. So I call Verizon customer service ASAP to see why this has happened and to make a long story short the cs rep. kept telling me some mumbo jumbo that she had verified that it was legitimate usage. I continued to try and stress my point to her but she kept putting me on hold claiming that she was checking with her supervisor and others but never would put them on the phone.

Finally I asked her if she would give me a break down of the Web and apps that my device details says had used 78% of my data during these 42 minutes and she stated that Verizon does not have this capability and if they did she could not give it to me because of privacy issues. I furiously exclaimed to her "what privacy issues, hell it's my account!" There's never a privacy issues when I pay my $300 bill to ya'll every month. This conversation went on for about an hour until finally I told the cs rep. that this was obviously something that was above her pay grade and that I will be calling Verizon's headquarters first thing Monday morning. If there is someone else out there who have had or is currently having similar experiences such as mines please let me know because I am seriously thinking about getting a lawyer and filing a class action lawsuit against Verizon Wireless. I will also be contacting the local media and consumer affairs.

Same thing is happening to me and my family atm. We haven't had issues going over our data limit for probably five years. Haven't even come close to going over. Within the last week or two, we've started getting text alerts about going over our data limit. My non-tech savvy mom called VZ customer service to figure things out, and was basically told a bunch of nonsense about how "downloading things like webpages" is using up our data, which doesn't actually make sense, but my mom, and I'm sure plenty other non tech-savvy individuals, didn't know any better. They gave her a nice "solution" to the problem, having her buy another gig of data--yesterday night--and maybe 15 hours later, I get another text message saying we've gone over again. I know VZ recently made changes to their plans, (I think the changes were made July 7th or so?) and am seeing a handful of complaints surfacing over the past few days about extreme data usage that just doesn't add up. Hopefully more people will become aware of this rapidly depleting data and this seemingly scammy situation will get more attention/coverage.
