Timruary 2013 Verizon Wireless along with HTC forced an operating system upgrade from Gingerbread to the Ice Cream Sandwich operating system onto the HTC Thunderbolt cell phones on the Verizon Wireless network. The HTC Thunderbolt was the first 4G LTE phone released for use on Verizon's 4G LTE network and was released in March 2011. The early buyers of the HTC Thunderbolt were among the last of the Verizon Wireless customers able to purchase a plan with UNLIMITED data. Verizon Wireless discontinued the UNLIMITED data plans during the summer of 2011.

Since the forced update on my HTC Thunderbolt, my HTC Thunderbolt has virtually become a brick constantly experiencing connectivity issues, unable to connect to download data or make cell phone calls even with four bars of signal strength showing on the screen. Since the upgrade my Verizon Wireless HTC Thunderbolt will not stay connected to my home wifi network.

These are issue I did not experience before the forced operating system upgrade. A search of the internet reveals that many Verizon Wireless HTC Thunderbolt owners are experiencing the same issues since the forced update. Verizon Wireless customer service and tech support offer no solutions. Verizon Wireless Twitter Support attempted to play stupid about the HTC Thunderbolt issues, then posted to "be patient as the update was only rolled out 11 days ago".

With the fact that the Verizon Wireless HTC Thunderbolt customers are approaching the end of their 2 yr contracts, with most HTC Thunderbolt owners now eligible for a discounted upgrade on their handset which would remove them from the UNLIMITED data packages, did Verizon Wireless knowingly force an upgrade that they knew was faulty in order to frustrate the HTC Thunderbolt owners into upgrading their phones and thus putting them onto a more expensive data plan?

If Verizon Wireless had not forced this update onto my phone, I would have stayed with Verizon Wireless on a month to month basis as my phone worked fine before the forced update. Since this forced update has caused my phone to be unusable the majority of the time I attempt to use it, I will be leaving Verizon Wireless on March 16th when my 2 your contract ends. I spoke with Verizon Wireless and requested that since they broke my phone, my bill is already paid for this billing cycle which ends on March 16, 2013 the end of my 2 year contract , I wanted to buy another phone that worked and port my phone number over to another carrier that offered unlimited data. I was advised that even though my bill is already paid through the end of my two year contract, and that I told Verizon Wireless that they can keep all the money that was paid o the end of the 2 yr contract, if I port my cell number to another wireless carrier before March 17, 2013 I will be charged a $120.00 early termination fee.

I will never use Verizon Wireless again and encourage others to look elsewhere for a wireless cell phone service provider. I wish there was enough people who would stand up to Verizon Wireless for this type of behavior to file Class Action lawsuits. If not, they will continue forcing updates that make your equipment less functional, frustrating you into their upgrade schemes, that keep you hooked into their increasingly more costly plans.
