I started working as a CSR in Lee's Summit Mo. Due to my outstanding ability to sell products and services, I was constantly asked to join the retail sales team. I declined for many years. In late 2009 I was told that VZW was making all customer service reps become sales reps. I was talked into being the first to take the position in the Ks/mo area. I only worked part time and refused to go full time. I had a smaller sales quota than FT sales reps because I was only scheduled 5 yrs per day. I exceeded my quota every month and hit multipliers to increase my commission checks. A new manager was transfered to my store and promised by the regional manager that he could build or transfer an entire new sales team. He came with a few of his friends/employees from other stores. I had a very large and loyal customer base at that location. Most would not allow any other rep to take care of their needs, even on my off days. They would ask when will I be back and decline to be helped. My sales were very high as well as my commission. I grossed 10-12k per month in commission. The manager asked me to stop taking new sales after I hit my quota, to allow other sales reps to make their quotas. I refused to do that. I was then told that if I didn't go to fulltime, I would lose my job. If I went to FT that would make my quotas higher and pay lower. Of course, I didn't accept that. So the manager and his new sales team became very angry with me and created a hostile environment so bad that I ended up in ER and almost had a stroke. When I came back from sick time off from the stress related illness, I was terminated. I never did anything wrong and was sure that I would never get fired. To my surprise, the manager and another worker logged into a terminal on my off day and sold a phone to a customer, then said that I did something unethical and possibly even stole a phone and gave it to the woman. They even accused me of being related to the woman because she was African american and so am I. I did not know the woman but later found out that the rep that helped the manager log in under my name was friends with the lady from a previous job. I was the only Africa n American employee in the store and we rarely had Africa n American customers. I was fired on Superbowl Sunday and had proof that I could not have done ythe transaction because I was signed into an IEP meeting at my sons high school with teachers, counselors and specialist from Disability services. I chose not to fight because while working there I saw people get bullied, lied on, fired, sexually harassed and hate crimes. A few of these things happened to me while working there, I reported the incidents and nothing happened to the employees for bad behavior so I stopped complaints. VZW is a great company to work for however, they are quick to believe their managers and there are unethical managers within their organization. Verizon is so worried about being sued by everyone that they would rather turn the cheek to bad behavior than to admit they have bad apples employed by them. They are also very scared of media. That's another reason they won't reprimand bad behavior. They are verybfearfulnof bad publicity, exposure and law suits.
