My engine also failed after the Oil Light came on. This had happened once before and I took it right to the dealer. They informed me that there was nothing wrong. The second time it happened, boom, blown engine that has to be rebuilt.

The dealer will not commit that this will be covered by my drivetrain warranty. The car has 50,700 well within the 60,000 mile powertrain warranty. They keep saying "it should be, we have to find out the cause before determining that."

Any advice would be greatly appreciated on how to handle this situation in order to avoid resistance from the dealer or the dealer rep. It scares me to see so many similar stories on this site.

Shouldn't VW be held responsible for a defective product?
