Wamu intentionally lowered credit limit so they could charge overlimit fees on past due account.

It's an ethical concern.

It is true. The cardholder agreement that I signed states this. I still don't have to think it's good business or ethical. They lowered my credit limit less than $150 (an odd amount). It just so happens that the amount was what it took to cause an over the limit fee. I am legally bound by the agreement, but I am free to express my concerns about the ethics of such practices. They send out letters promising to aid and assist cardholders when we have financial problems, but they do something like this. It is unethical.

What about this is a ripoff?

You said your account is past due. According to the cardholder agreement (which you agreed to honor) this is their practice. What is wrong with it, other than you don't like it?
