Everytime I go to this Wendy's, they leave something out of the bag. They try to smash our orders into as few bags as possible, that way they are hard to examine while you are at the window and you won't catch their omissions. Their favorite is to leave out the chicken nuggets, but sometimes it is a chive baked potato. Everytime I'm at that window, I think I can see everything in my order, but they manage to fool me. Tonight, I thought the bags were complete. We decided to pull over and eat, since we knew we'd probably have to go back. I emptied the bags, and sure enough, we were short not one, but two items! A chive potato and a five piece chicken nuggets. These weren't the ordinary .99 cent nuggets, but the 1.39 ones. Why should non-spicy nuggets cost .40 cents more? That in itself is a ripoff. I mean you dish out the same nuggets, but actually they have less materials since there is no spice, but you charge more for them!? Anyhow, I volunteered to go back in the store and get the missing items. I noticed a big greasy looking drive-thru attendant and a cashier standing in the drive-thru window, and one was eating nuggets, and the other had a potato!

I told the girl eating the potato I needed my missing food. She proceeded to argue with me, and demanded to see a receipt. She thought I couldn't produce one. I went back to the car and found her precious receipt. Then she told me that I didn't pay for the non-spicy nuggets, I would have to pay her .43 cents if I didn't want spicy! Can you believe that? Made me make two trips in because they were stealing food from the customers' bags, and then instead of just givng me my nuggets, wanted to argue over .43 cents. I'm mad about all of this.

But I know now that they are stealing food from the bags and making it hard for customers to notice, because they think we won't come back, and if we do, they pull the old demand to see the receipt trick and hope we don't have it (more likely, they didn't hand the receipt out either). Beware! This Wendy's is trying to rip customers off, especially in the drive-thru. Does anyone have any ideas how I can prove this theft to management, or if management is in on it, how can I prove it to corporate?

I personally would not go to the extremes of the OP, but more power to him if he gets the result he wants.   He sounds like he is more interested in what he believes they are doing than in the 43 cents.

It is a very frustrating thing to go through a drive through and then get to your destination and find something missing.  It's quite funny in retrospect, but once upon a time ago, I ordered a junior whopper from Burger King and the burger had no meat.  I was right there when I found it so I took it back in and they made it right.

You're dealing with 18-year old minimum wage earners that aren't stealing. The problem is that they are incompetent and don't care. The mature way to handle this is to complain and then get on with your life. Don't get engrossed by the small stuff.

Keep Laughing

Keep laughing, I'll have the last laugh when I get to the bottom of all this. I'm going to file a class action suit against the fast food industry over all the mistakes and stolen items we pay for and never receive. You'll think it's funny when you get the claim forms in your mailboxes, standing to make hundreds and thousands off of what I'm going to prove down here in this small town. And other than the lawyers, I'll be getting the big bucks because I'm going to be getting the convenience fee for bearing the brunt of this lawsuit. I'll give it to after Thanksgiving, then I'm going to get a lawyer and private investigator to start proceedings and gather evidence. If you're laughing now, don't you dare try to get in on my class action later. You've sh* your nest.

You need to wean yourself off the fast food....look at the halucinatory things happening to you.

Keep calling Wendy's and you'll soon enough be eating jail food instead of fast food.  This may adjust your attitude better than anything else.

"This is Kevin, and I'm telling you right now to stop calling Wendy's." Then he hung up. What do you make of that? I think they're hiding stuff from the manager, not even passing on her phone calls. I think they've taken over the store and they're doing what they want."

Made Another Phone Attempt Today

I had a friend, Elizabeth call back to Wendy's today and ask for the manager. You know, since I didn't really believe she was on vacation until next Tuesday. So I thought if a woman asked for the manager, they wouldn't connect it to me and maybe Elizabeth would be able to get her on the line. So she called, and got the same story, that the manager would not be back until next week. So I didn't think much of it, but then I got a phone call from 'unavailable' and the man on the line said that "This is Kevin, and I'm telling you right now to stop calling Wendy's." Then he hung up. What do you make of that? I think they're hiding stuff from the manager, not even passing on her phone calls. I think they've taken over the store and they're doing what they want.

This sounds pretty legitimate.  But you may be opening a can of worms.  You have no idea how high the nugget thief's guild goes.  The only way to make sure this is fixed is to track down and speak to Emil Brolick directly.  It's the only safe way space cadet.

EAT SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!
It is THAT simple.

The food is NOT that good that you just can't stop yourself from going back. I'm sure as retarded as you sound you could probably make something better even at your own home!

You seriously expect people making 7.25 right out of high school if they even have a GED to be up to your "standards" of fast food?

You have WAY too many conspiracy theories. Seriously.

After the many years of getting fast food I have discovered that the older women who just want a few extra bucks or something to do are the BEST for seeing to it that the order is correct.  Its so nice to see one of these women fixing our order, and then there are the airhead girls who don't know which end is up.

We were at the White Castle drive thru and I asked for 1/2 dozen packs of ketchup since they really don't just put them in your bag like they did years ago.  Anyways. this blonde flake looked at me and asked "Is that 4?".    Dear God in Heaven.

Tried to follow up with manager today

#12Author of original report

Sat, November 19, 2011

I went in at 2pm and asked for the manager. They gave me an assistant manager. I told her I wanted THE STORE MANAGER, I had information for their ears only. The a*s. manager claimed she wouldn't be in until a week from Tuesday, she was on 'vacation.' So now I've decided one of two things are happening. Okay, maybe three things.

1) The store manager is not really on vacation, and they're trying to keep me from her because they recognize me. 2) She is on vacation, and that is why the staff has been stealing my food. or (I hope this isn't the case) 3) The store manager is on the thefts and doesn't want to be confronted, hoping I will go away.

I don't even know what to say to some of my doubters on here. You accuse me of wasting my life, telling me nothing is going on, it's just an accident and whatever else you can say to detract from me. I want to ask you this: if there's nothing to the Wendy's employees stealing from me, why is it so important for you to convince me it was all a mistake? Are they paying people to get on here and tell us not gripe about fast food theft? I don't appreciate it. This loss costs the consumers thousands every year in food that they pay for and don't get. I'm taking this very seriously and will continue to do all that I can to make sure customers (especially me) get the food that I pay for and see that the guilty theives are punished.

Glad you have all this time to waste you nutcase. If you caught them stealing why not just call the police right there? I hope you are happy when you get some random minimum wage idiot at wendy's fired. They will be confused because they aren't stealing, they are just stupid.

Of course, the manager isn't going to care. There isn't a consipiracy here. Fast food places hire substandard employees that make a lot of mistakes. Every mcdonald's in my areas screws up my orders routinely. They aren't stealing my food, they are just stupid. So kudos for wasting so much of your life on catching the nugget bandits!

I went back tonight...

#14Author of original report

Fri, November 18, 2011

I went back. They weren't too busy. I hopped out of the car and told my friend to go through the drivethru and order the three meals for him and the other two, I'd go in and order mine while he was in the drivethru. I loitered for a minute before I went to the counter, to make sure I'd see them assembling his bag. I had a coupon for a free frosty with a combo, so I ordered a number one and offered up the coupon. I paid, and then I looked at the receipt. a*s had charged me for the Frosty! I pointed that out, and they gave me a refund. I think they were trying to get me to pay for it and then the staff was going to use the coupon themselves, or use it when a friend came in and give them a free frosty. So then I see the food coming together that I recognized as what my friend was supposed to be ordring. I saw the chicken nuggets sitting there, with the three fries he was getting. I saw some more food get thrown that way that must have been for the car behind my friend. I never saw chicken nuggets go in either bag to my friend (only two bags, any sane person would've used at least three bags) so I was sure he didn't get the nuggets. I hung out a bit and asked for butter. Then I asked a random question about the biggest chili they had, to kill time. Then I moved over to the condiment bar and pretended to busy myself, while keeping an eye on the staff.

Sure enough, the drivethru hunchback said "Hey, Alyssa, I got some extra chicken nuggets here if you want them!!!!!" I knew it. I had the evidence I needed. Now I just needed to verify that the nuggets were not received in our bags. I went to the car, and my pal Dan had already checked the bags. He told me what I already knew: no nuggets. I told him to give me the receipt. I tucked the slip into my pocket, and headed back in. I told them my pal was just in the drivethru and didn't get his nuggets. They tried that same old trick, and asked for the receipt. I pulled it out, and there it was, nuggets.

Alyssa's face dropped. I could tell she was up to something. I can tell when people are lying and trying to pull something, and Alyssa sure was tonight. She gave me the nuggets, and I left. I'm going back in tomorrow and demand that the manager look at the surveillance footage from about 9:10-9:20 tonight, I'm sure she'll see that drivethru boy pulling a switcheroo and Alyssa eating the stolen nuggets. If that doesn't get them fired, I don't know what will. Unless the manager is in on it.

"Nut case" is only the tip of THIS iceberg.  Someone has WAAAAYYYY too much time on their hands, and not quite enough gray matter between the ears.  And, by the way, "Corporate" has absolutely nothing to do with it.  Each Wendy's is owned by a franchisee.  What a cretin.

Seriously we do get the "big picture".  You are the typical person who writes a complaint on a Fast Food restaurant about the drive-thru.  You like the typical person thinks that it is some huge conspiracy that a person who is barley making minimum wage is smart enough to actually come up with a plan to steal customers food.  Not only that but in your case they actually make it so that you think you got the food you ordered.  Yet even with the constant mistakes and complaints, like most other complainers..you keep going back.

But I do have to give you credit for one thing.  At least you came up with an original reason to keep going back.  So I suggest that when you place your plant inside of the dining room that you make it a Gardenia, not only would it provide ample space to hide recording equipment, it would also be smarter than anyone else you could get to go along with your plan.

But instead of going through all of that, how about this.  If you truly think your food is being stolen then why not take EVERYTHING out of the bag before you leave the window.  If one item is missing immediately call 9-1-1 and report the theft.  Refuse to move your car until the police arrive.  When the police come and you give them your story.

I do hope you come back here after you get out of jail and tell us what they said

You have some serious problems. First you keep going BACK To a resturaunt that has messed up your order countless times. Now you have a conspiracy theory that the  employees are so starved that they have to steal from customers in the drive througgh because of malicious management. Now you are going to waste more of your time in a sting operation to prove that these overworked malnourished employees are systematically stealing your food?

doesn't this sound a bit crazy to you? Want some advice, stop eating there if they are so horrible.

Nitpickers Don't Get The Big Picture

#18Author of original report

Thu, November 17, 2011

.43 cents? 43 cents? Some of you'd rather nitpick over the use of a decimal, even though you know what I'm talking about, than deal with a real problem. You know there are no increments of 'less than one cent' on the Wendy's menu.

I don't care if the Wendy's employees get 'free' meals from the store. And don't even tell me they don't want to eat the food. I've seen them eat it, and I've seen them eat food I've paid for and stole from me. If you'd see this bunch of slumps and bums, you'd know they'd knock their own mothers down to retrieve a cheeseburger from the dumpster. And it's not about their free meals. It's about a manager that is restricting the amount of free food they can get, so they resort to stealing from customers. Or it's about a manager that decided they didn't want to take a loss on the employee meals, so she's instituted a policy of making the customers absorb the costs and telling the employees to hold food back from customers and taking her chances the customer won't bother to complain over a dollar item here or there. I have more reason than ever to go back, because I'm going to prove they're doing it. I might have to plant someone in the lobby to see what goes on in the drivethru when I'm in it, but I'll catch them. Maybe my plant will hear them say something incriminating, or they'll see one of them actively remove an item from the bags.

Most of the fast food places offer free or discounted food to the workers. The only problem is that most people that work in this industry will not eat the food. They see and experience more than the average customer therefore would never touch the food.

You say yourself that EVERY time you go there you get ripped off so why do you keep going back?  If you just must go to this particular one then why don't you go INSIDE and eat then that way when they rip you off  you can point it out right away.

Sorry, Coast, but the OP sure won't get your point....

#21Consumer Comment

Thu, November 17, 2011

The OP is too busy theorizing why they come up short on their order(s).

"Everytime I go to this Wendy's, they leave something out of the bag. They try to smash our orders into as few bags as possible, that way they are hard to examine while you are at the window and you won't catch their omissions."

"they pull the old demand to see the receipt trick and hope we don't have it (more likely, they didn't hand the receipt out either)."

"But I know now that they are stealing food from the bags and making it hard for customers to notice, because they think we won't come back,"

This is one HUGE food conspiracy and should be investigated under RICO.

Could it possibly be the minimum wage employees can make mistakes.

Instead of trying to prove all this to  management, corporate, the BBB, the FTC, and Mom, try eating somewhere else.
