WHOLE FOODS MARKET Sold me "rechargeable" Alkaline batteries that explode if not used in their charger, which don't sell! San Francisco, California
On 6/6/2010 I purchased from the Whole Foods Market on Franklin Street, San Francisco, CA One 4 pack of Whole Foods/365 brand Alkaline AAA rechargeable batteries. ISSUE: That night I put them in my La Crosse battery charger on the lowest/safest settings, well luckily I was home because after about an hour I heard a loud POP sound. The batteries were oozing acid onto my charger ready to explode! I immediately un-plugged charger. I then read the retail battery package and noticed it stated in small print ON BACK of package: "Warning: Recharge with a 365 Everyday Value charger only!" I bought rechargeable batteries and believed them to be just that, not batteries that will explode unless used with a 365 brand charger (which Whole Foods does not seem to have in store with the batteries) I have never seen one of these at ANY of the Whole Foods I shop at. Long story short: My $50+ battery charger is now ruined by these batteries. I wrote to the store only to be told that they would refund money for the batteries only! Whole Foods is selling a what seems to be ordinary batteries for a premium price and not offering a way to safely use (recharge). I hope nobody gets hurt by an exploding battery! If anyone has legal advice for me, I am all ears.

La Crosse charges NiCd and NiMH batteries. You bought rechargeable alkaline batteries.

You talked about how you put these rechargeable batteries in a charger that wasn't intended for them, then they exploded, then you read the packaging. I own rechargeable batteries myself, and it clearly states that you should only use the brand of batteries that the charger is for. Of course Whole Foods isn't going to refund you the money on the charger, it's not their fault you didn't read something.
