Recently I recieved a flyer in the mail advertising employment at a new WinCo store in my area. Included on the flyer were instructions on how to apply online via www.careermapping.com. I filled out the online employment application. Once finished with the application I was instructed to report to a new Holiday Inn in my area. So, like so many other unsuspecting people in my area I showed up the next day, only to find a big sign in the doorway that reads something like "WinCo checked out. Due to overwhelming response we are no longer accepting applications"

At this point I knew I had been dooped. I had just remember that the grand opening was the night before at 7:00 P.M. WinCo Foods would have already hired and been training all the needed employees. They had no intention to hire out of this hotel.

Think about this. At the end of the application they say something like "don't tell your friends or family" This is the first reverse psycological trick that they played. Imagine all of us jobseekers telling our friends and family about the new grocery store in town. They tricked us into "word of mouth advertising"

Many jobseekers and myself immediatly went straight to the new WinCo for an Application, only to find out that the boat is already full. I find it very interesting that these flyers arrived in the mail just one day before the grand opening. They already hired there workers atleast a month before. I thought that that I was a jobseeker, but was tricked by WinCo foods into being an instrument of advertising. I won't be fooled Again!

In response to what you have stated above, I have to say that you are mistaken. I actually work at the Holiday Inn in Beaumont where the application process took place for the Winco foods that will be opening in Hemet.

Not only do I work for the hotel but I also took advantage of the fact that I could be there early in the process and submitted an application. I went through the whole process already (including drug testing) and they are having orientations next week.

I know for a fact that the store is not open yet. They are supposed to be opening at the end of this month. Training for all the new employees will start soon.

Hopefully you clear things up and find out for sure that such scam never existed, you probably just arrived late to the hiring process. There were 10,000 people who went in and applied for the jobs, so they stopped giving applications on the 25th of September.

Hopefully you can apply when the store really does open.

Good luck to you.

It sounds like you arrived a little to late. I also showed up to that location in Beaumont, however I was requested to return to that Holiday Inn 9/25/09 for the orientation and will be retuning 9/28 for an interview. There was over a 1000 people who applied for the jobs for the Hemet location. I didn't see any scam by them here. All that happened was to many people applied and their wasn't enough positions avaliable. Not sure what time you arrived at the Holiday Inn, but I went there at 11:30 am and didn't see that sign you mentioned in your article.
