BUYER BEWARE of this dishonest seller. John Hoving. He will take advantage of your good nature and steal your money. PLEASE READ THE NUMEROUS POSTINGS ABOUT THIS PERSON. Non Delivery and No refund.
I purchased (2) Jazz Fest posters through ebay store (bymybook2007) which he has since closed, interestingly enough the day I filed a dispute. He claimed to have the items and that they would be shipped one week after payment bc he wsa out of town, then claimed 2 weeks later that they were damaged and he would refund via paypal, after having my money for 3 weeks.
When I did not receive the paypal refund notification I contacted him and he claimed he had been notified by paypal that there was an issue with his acct. After so much BS to this point, I contacted paypal customer service and was told that there was no issue with his acct and that he could in fact issue the refund. I called him immediately with the name and extension of the paypal operator I spoke to and after I threatened to file a paypal dispute he was miraculously able to issue a refund request.
He also claimed that he had already mailed me a check. 2 weeks later no check, what a surprise! Also, now 10 business days after the refund request the refund could not be honored, likely bc of insufficient funds in his acct. I have initiated a dispute with paypal, ebay and my credit card company. I have also investigated with Chicago BBB who has a lengthy file of claims under his various aliases (see other reports on this site).
I have given him until October 20 to refund by check. If he does not honor this, I intend to file a claim with the Illinois State Attorney General's office, the FTC, and the Dept. of Consumer Services in Chicago. I have also inquired of my attorney who informs me that he very likely has commited mail fraud whihc is governed by state and federal regulations. I will post an update next week.
Please note he will become very rude and scream in an effort to intimidate you. I have email documentation of every conversation and purchase/payment from ebay and paypal. Also, please note consumer comment posted by TIM on 4/20 that indicates he has been arrested and tried at least once already in Illinois and that he issues NSF checks or stop payment on refunds.
