Working Man's Auto Deceitful owner/company takes big down payment and repo's the car when the payment was 7 days late Austin Texas
My husband went to Working Man's Auto to get a vehicle because we had filed bankruptcy and we did not have the credit to get financing. Working Man's Auto is a buy here pay here lot that does not give credit checks. You would think that the owner and staff at this car lot know that the people that get cars from them are the ones that do not have good credit and need their help. Oh, wait a tic, they do know that...and that's why they can take advantage of you!
We got the vehicle in October of 2004 and agreed to payments biweekly. We have had a couple of late payments since October and the second was just this past week. The first was paid in under ten days and my husband was going to pay this past one today, which would have been seven days. The owner himself drives a wrecker to work to tow cars. It just so happens that my husband had done some HVAC work for him before and he called him back today for a service call.
While my husband was in his shop (and was not even going to charge him), he repo-ed the vehicle and left my husband on foot without his tools, freon, wallet, planner with other business papers, and my daughter's carseat. My brother-in-law had to go pick him up and the owner is refusing to give our things back until we give him the 3rd row seat. I guess it is a fair swap but I can't bring my daughter anywhere and that was the only car we have. Leigh, the owner, says that his decision is not to give us the vehicle back.
We put a trade-in value down worth $5000 and have since then paid over $2000. This doesn't seem right that we loose everything. Shouldn't there be some mercy? I have had a car through Ford Credit before and they didn't contact me until 30 days after a payment was late. This guy took our car because our payment was a week late. I feel that he is a crook and this is how he makes his money. Getting a big down payment for a used car and waiting until you make a little mistake. He will have it sold again within days.
