Bay Area Noise Control Lee Brenner This individual is outrageously overcharging people for soundproofing consultation fees. Literally financially preying on people. San Francisco CALIFORNIA
Bay Area Noise Control was contacted by me about a soundproofing project (pre Covid19). Lee Brenner, the owner of said business, came out to my unit to do an assessment on the project. Lee proceeded to charge me $450 for the consultation, which felt extremely high to me. He told me everything was fine in terms of the current sound circumstances, and said it wasn't worth him doing the job. Felt pretty awful being charged $450 while being told that he's unwilling to do the job. When I proceeded to assess his reviews on Yelp,
I began seeing similar patterns of behavior: Lee comes out, charges people exorbitant amounts of money as a "consultation fee" in order to talk them out of having him do the job. He clearly was just showing up for an hour, collecting a consultation fee, and not earnestly considering doing the job. When I contacted other soundproofing contractors, 4 of them to be specific, all of them came out to my unit with an intention to actually do the job. More important - they didn't price gouge me. 2 of the contractors didn't charge me any fee for a consultation, and the other 2 charged me $150 for the consultation. That Lee is charging $450 for these fees is outrageous, but that he's then not following up on actually doing the job is shady.
