123Movers, Goldstar van lines BEWARE of these two companies - 123Movers referred me to Goldstar van lines, who are scammers!!!! Internet
I listed my move for bidding on 123 Movers. I got several resposnes, and the one I chose was Goldstar van lines. They moved my household from OR to WI. They picked up my stuff and 1 week later I get a call saying that the cost had been doubled and they would not ship until they got their ransom. I complained to the BBB and Goldstar lied saying that I was given a delivery date and that my things would be delivered in 30 days. I got my stuff 32 days later by a third party in a rental truck. Do not trust anything from 123 movers and DEFINITELY do not trust Goldstar van lines!!

I have been in the moving industry for the last five years. It always upsets me when I read stories like this one. Please people, for the sake of your personal belongings, hire a reputable mover. If no one comes to your home to do a physical inventory of your items, choose someone who will. Interstate moves are based on weight so if they don't see what you have, how will they be able to give you an estimate? You could have 20 boxes that you packed that contain floral arrangements or pillows or you could have 20 boxes filled with books or china. Obviously the books and china would weigh more than pillows or floral arrangements.
It also bothers me that they wouldn't ship unless you paid their "ransom." If you have an estimate, the only thing required to get your items delivered is payment of the estimate plus 10%. They would have to bill you for the rest. I'm not sure if that is a law or not but that's how most reputable moving companies do business.

I work in the moving industry and deal with 123movers and other lead aggregators.
Their role in the moving industry is simply to get your lead (contact) information and sell it to as many companies as they can. Typically this is about 6 companies.
Many of these aggregators claim to "verify" licenses of the moving companies they sell you too, however this does not mean the company is reputable, has a good reputation, or will take care of you.
Your story is not uncommon. I do test leads all the time, which means I fill out the forms on these aggregator sites and see who they sell me too. I am generally appalled at the online moving quotes I get via email within minutes. To be clear, a reputable moving company will want to come to YOUR HOME and view YOUR BELONGINGS to give you and ACCURATE MOVING QUOTE. That is the simple and plain truth. Nobody can tell you how much it will cost to move you without coming to your home unless you have just a few boxes or a few belongings. You should always deal with reputable moving companies that we well known. We all know the names of these companies and we see their trucks going down the interstate. Have you ever seen a 123movers truck? Probably not because 123movers does not "move" anyone. Neither does vanlines.com, relocation.com, moving.com, movingcompanies.com, etc. you get the point.
