On 12/23/2009, I did my usual log-in to my banking account with Fifth Third Bank in the early morning. I was shocked to see a overdraft fee of $296.00 which had no explanation. Everyday I log-in because of past abuses by this bank so I can see all posted and pending transactions. As of today, 12/25/2009 my account has been charged $566.00 in overdraft fees.On 12/23/2009 I went into the bank to try to resolve this and spoke with the branch manager. This is what she told me in her own words, "The internet access to your bank account is only a tool and not to be taken as accurate". When I asked her to explain the overdraft charges, she printed out a list of transactions and then informed me my account had overdrafted on 12/21/2009 in the amount of $80.13. On 12/21/2009 my account had +$386.00 after posted items and pending items. I also made a deposit of $600.00 on that day 12/21/2009. Several items were listed as posted on 12/21/2009 including my electric and cable bills. On 12/22/2009 during my usual online review of my account my balance was +$491.00 and that was shown as available. I purchased several items that day including several small purchases from local stores with no purchase that exceeded $20.00 and the total amount I purchased that day was $418.00. The branch manager then tried to show me how 5/3 arrived at the overdraft number of $80.13 but after several attempts all she could figure was -$29.66 which still did not make sense because, as I pointed out her hand written math skills were incorrect and that my account had shown a +$36.96 available balance only 11 hours before during my log-in at 10:00Pm 12/22/2009 . At that point I laid $300.00 on her desk and asked her to make a deposit for me and then to close out my account citing the oblivous deception in her statements, math  and Fifth Third inability to give me accurate account information. In her own words she stated "I can not close your account and I can not accept any monies until all your transactions have posted" I told her I can not be held responsible for overdrafts that are fabicated or for transaction that have been re-ordered for different days where is was possible funds were not sufficent to cover certain transactions and that I review my account each day to make sure I do not overdraft and I am very aware of auto-pay items I had set-up with my account. At all times my account had sufficent funds to complete each transaction on the day they were made and at all times I accounted for funds that had not posted but were pending to prevent any possible disruptions in my account.  The letter I recieved on 12/24/2009 shows 8 overdrafts at $37.00 each some for purchases of $4-6.00. However, according to 5/3 own records, my account had sufficent funds for all. The branch manager then said " debit cards have a cut-off point and you continued to swipe your card afterthat cut-off point thereby creating the overdrafts that were paid on the following day from your available balance and that caused the other items to overdraft as well" My head hurt after that one. I truely believe 5/3 made a concerted effort to deceive me in my on-line reviews since IF I was in overdraft on 12/21/2009 the account would have shown that on 12/22/2009 which it did not. I have over overdraft charges applied to my account on 12/23 and 12/24 but as of yet I do not know what they are for or how 5/3 figured those out. If anyone can help me please e-mail me at (((REDACTED)))@aol.com
Thank you !
